By: Eric Fawcett -- April 10, 2025 Looking at how Florida will be looking to attack the transfer portal the number one priority is a star guard that can take over from Walter Clayton and lead the way offensively. For that reason you have seen the Gators tied in with a number of the top available scorers and ball handlers, and there is a good chance they land a commitment from one soon. Transfer Portal Target: Ohio’s AJ Brown | GatorCountry.com
If we did, it would seem like we would already be looking good, barring any losses. Modifying @exiledgator’s roster, we might have this: 1: Lee, Aberdeen, Klavzar, Kublikas 2: Aberdeen, I Brown, Klavzar, Lloyd 3: Haugh, AJ Brown, Ingram 4: Condo, Alexis 5: Chins, Handles, Mikic (Note: The Gators could definitely go “small” here as they’ve done this season pushing Haugh and Condo to the 4 and 5, but I’ve already mucked this thing up enough)
Are we looking for him to come off the bench? He doesn’t quite seem otherworldly, but maybe i’m missing something. Coming off an NC you’d think we could aim higher, but what the hell do i know. Seems like he’d be a decent get, good to have, but that our focus would be Lee as PG. Would Brown be ahead of his brother, Urban, Kabluckas…
He isn't, but that's okay for this team. He fits the mold that Golden wants in terms (attitude, work ethic, wants to play at Florida). I view him as similar to Richard in terms of size and shot up shooting. Assuming we get a one in the portal, and that Haugh gets a shot at the three, it's likely we are looking at him as a multi-year swing player off the bench who can hit jumpers.
I can envision Todd Golden entering all of AJ's data into his "analytics computer", letting it whir for a while and then spitting out all the answeres to our questions.
I would guess, yes, coming off the bench. Also Eric reports he would have two years to play, which could be big if our other guard transfer is a senior, as Lee is. In that case, after next year, we’d lose both guard spots, and likely Haugh at the 3 as well. Even with zero transfers, our 2026-27 roster is likely down to this: 1: Klavzar, Kublikas 2: I Brown, Lloyd 3: AJ Brown, Ingram 4: 5: Chins, Mikic Crap, now that I’ve written that down, it becomes clear that next year is another one we will want to savor.
Yea with that list, Golden will have to work his magic - which at this point i have no doubt that he will
Yes seems a decent fit if that’s the case, and as Brown’s brother he probably fits that criteria. You seem close to the program - is there any idea internally whether Condo and Haugh want to come back next year, regardless? They’re both early 2nd round right now, as high as late 1st round. That’s tough to turn down, though 2-3 the 04’s turned down higher draft rankings
I pay attention, but I am hardly an insider. My guess is that both declare, go through the workouts, get feedback, then return to work on their game. They will get considerable NIL raises, and neither is exactly a surefire prospect.
I think it's really hard to think two years ahead like that. We're a long way of knowing next years roster. 3 open spots and only two potential known portal targets. Plus any other transfers out that we're sure to see. Then there's Lloyd and Ingram. Neither, one, or both of them could have great seasons next year and then take that huge sophomore leap. And what HS recruiting magic can TFG pull w/ '26 kids? Your point is valid in looking at who we currently have that can still be here in two years, but it's more likely that maybe only 4 of those 8 you listed will even be here in today's ever changing lineups...
On GMA this morning, Walter said he hasn't even declared for the draft yet. "Oh, by the way. One more thing: Let's do it again. I'm coming back!" You heard it here first! /s
Very right you are. This group of three veteran guards was special and will be missed. This exercise helped me to see that we are likely about to have a special group of veteran bigs that will also be missed.
