Let's take a look at the schools that have won the most men's basketball Championships. 1. UCLA, 11 (64, 1965,19 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1995) 2. Kentucky, 8 (1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, 1998, 2012) T3. UConn, 6 (1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023, 2024) T3. North Carolina, 6 (1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, 2017) T4. Duke, 5 (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015) T4. Indiana, 5 (1940, 1953, 1976, 1981, 1987) 7. Kansas, 4 (1952, 1988, 2008, 2022) T8. Florida, 3 (2006, 2007, 2025) T8. Villanova, 3 (1985, 2016, 2018) T9. Michigan State, 2 (1979, 2000) T9. Louisville, 2 (1980, 1986) T9. North Carolina State, 2 (1974, 1983) T9. Cincinnati, 2 (1961, 1962) T9. San Francisco, 2 (1955, 1956) T9. Oklahoma State, 2 (1945, 1946)
The stats for the 2000s. Of course, they don't include the 2025 results. Add one Final Four and one Championship for the Gators! We are now tied with Duke, North Carolina and UConn with 3 Championships in the 2000s. Two ahead of Kentucky!
We're right there knocking on the blueblood door. One spot behind Kansas. I hope everyone understands how damned hard it is to win a national championship. By the way: Final Four trips... Florida, 6. The Rest of Florida... 4 (Jacksonville, FAU, Miami, FSU, 1 each). The other eight... zero.
From my post above, UConn has 5 championships in the 2000's according to ESPN. 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023 & 2024.
and it’s been long since ucla and Indiana has sniffed anything, they should be removed from discussion. ucla should have had numerous wins stripped due to their long time cheating. I recall Bill Walton admitting to getting anything they ever wanted.
Lots of errors in this table if it's meant to start in 2000: UConn has 5 titles, not 3. Duke has 5 final fours (01, 04, 10, 15, 22) not 4. UNC has 7 final fours (00, 05, 08, 09, 16, 17, 22) not 6 Baylor not listed at all despite winning the tourney in 2021... There's more errors but I'll stop there.
This is interesting, esp. with consideration to the blue blood convo. My quick thoughts are that IU should no longer be considered a blue blood. That ships sailed. FL, meanwhile, along with UConn should be considered a New Blood.
Michigan State and Kansas really arent getting it done once the great seeding from their weak schedule wears off and they get to the F4
Cal should be embarrassed with all that talent he had during his tenure at Kentucky to not to have multiple championships.
This millennium ('01-): Titles (24) ---------------------------------------------- Connecticut (5) Duke (3) North Carolina (3) FLORIDA (3) Kansas (2) Villanova (2) Kentucky (1) Louisville (1) Syracuse (1) Maryland (1) Virginia (1) Baylor (1) Final Fours by teams that have won titles (46/96) ---------------------------------------------- Connecticut (6) Duke (6) North Carolina (6) Kansas (6) FLORIDA (4) Villanova (4) Kentucky (4) Syracuse (3) Louisville (3) Maryland (2) Baylor (1) Virginia (1) Multiple Final Fours by non-title winners (26) ---------------------------------------------- Michigan State (6) UCLA (4) Auburn (2) Butler (2) Gonzaga (2) Houston (2) Michigan (2) Ohio State (2) Oklahoma (2) Wisconsin (2) 24 other teams with a single Final Four appearance. For those not happy about starting the millennium at 2001, feel free to add Michigan State (1 title, 7 total Final Fours), FLORIDA (+1 Final Four), North Carolina (+1 Final Four). Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Whenever I think about this I recall the old quote (Al MCGuire): "The best thing about Freshmen is in a year they'll be Sophomores." Cal never worried enough about having Sophomores.
Less than 15 teams have one the NCAA tournament in the last 40 years. JMO. I think it's harder to win BB title than football title.
An interesting post from gatorchamps0607 for you: Here's the updated list of NCAA Men's Basketball Championships for only titles won after the 64-team format began in 1985: Championships After 64-Team Playoff Era (1985–2025): UConn – 6 (1999, 2004, 2011, 2014, 2023, 2024) Duke – 5 (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015) North Carolina – 3 (1993, 2005, 2009, 2017) Kentucky – 3 (1996, 1998, 2012) Florida – 3 (2006, 2007, 2025) Villanova – 3 (1985, 2016, 2018) Kansas – 2 (2008, 2022) Michigan State – 1 (2000)
If I had to guess, there may be another filter applied that list. Lots of years missing, where is Kansas' 1988 title, for example? Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Now we open up the question about how to count BB championships. NCAA only? NCAA and Helms? Etc. Not an issue for UF but for some of those Blue Bloods it is a bone of contention.
It’s now 30 years that UCLA hasn’t won a championship. Meanwhile, in that span, we’ve won 3 in football and 3 in basketball
