I don't think it's over the top. A CFP berth should be the minimum. You can make it in without winning the SEC. Another 5 loss season and the pitchforks need to be sharpened.
If you don't think the article is over the top, you must not have read it... Here's one part... Napier’s path to redemption isn’t complicated, but it’s steep. A winning record won’t cut it. A bowl appearance? Please. Even eight or nine wins would feel like a disappointment after what Golden just pulled off with far fewer resources. The bare minimum now? Reaching the SEC Championship Game — which would likely secure Florida’s first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. And honestly, even that might not be enough to satisfy a fan base that just watched their basketball team shock the world. Golden showed that simply making the championship isn’t enough — you’ve got to finish the job. Napier might need to hoist a national championship trophy just to get back to neutral with Gator Nation. So yeah- the idiotic writer says finishing in the TOP 2 of the SEC wouldn't be enough.. In fact- winning an NC will only get Napier "back to neutral." If this isn't over the top, then really what is?? The author clearly hates Napier, hates our program, and is trying to use our b-ball NC to cause problems in Gator nation. Clearly a Nole or Cane. (My money is on Cane- immaturity and idiocy are pre-reqs to be one of their bandwagon fans.)
I think it really depends on how the SEC shakes out this fall. If there are 3 or 4 behemoths in football much like the basketball season that just ended, then expecting UF to beat every one of them is over the top. I see us being a much improved team, like what we saw in our last 4 games and then some. We should be competitive with everyone and win a majority of close games. Last year we stunk against Miami, AtM and TX, this should not happen in '25. We were competitive vs TN and GA but lost both, in '25 I would want us to win at least 66% of those type of games. If we do that, 9-11 regular season wins are likely, depending on how much other SEC teams are improved.
regular season or are you looking at bowls also. 9 total wins would be only one game better than last season where we started extremely poorly and then turned it around to 7 wins + a bowl victory.
I can't believe we play 4 MS + TX teams again! AND we play against 3 Florida Teams. That's 7 games vs 3 states! What the F schedule?!
Don’t disagree with that but the “champion ship or bust” comment was silly. Give the fanbase confidence that you know what you’re doing on Saturdays and compete …and I think most would be happy with that.
Unfortunately the recliner tapped out after the basketball championship and struggled to assist the offensive side of the ball in football this year. It was uncharacteristically angered after 3rd and long play calls (understandibly so).
Yeah, and his claim that the hoops program "shocked the world" when pretty much everyone had Florida either winning or at worst losing to Duke is pure hyperbole
Difference in basketball we were one of those behemoths. If we are a behemoth in football that means next season we would have beaten UGAG and TX and not lose to lesser teams. (assuming the 4 behemoths were us, ga, tx and bama.)
Please Coach BN, make it so! But what I was thinking and forgot to put in my original post. Last year the SEC didn't have those kind of behemoths in football like it did in basketball! It was really open for the taking if we had been playing on a higher level earlier in the season.
True, and maybe if Lagway played earlier, we might have beaten aTm or Miami or both (although I like what Mertz gave to UF). Gaining some confidence on the defense like the end of last year will make a huge difference as well.
