Why the hell not? They gave Mullen extension (more money) for losing 4 games and getting blown out in the bowl game because his agent was drumming up sh-t about him going to the NFL. Then S.S. proceeded to fire him the following year. Let's see, CTG just guided UF to it's first major sports title in years. UF's sports has been stale for quite some time. IMHO, CTG has rejuvenated gator fans all over the world. They should try to do whatever they can to keep him.
After careful consideration (see my previous post, ), Florida should extend Todd Golden's contract! Coach Golden has proven that you don't need top 100 players or Burger Boys to win championships but I still say that it may help!
I would make every effort to get him to at least the top two or three salaries in the SEC. He's earned that kind of respect and will certainly be in that kind of demand. From what I've found, Golden is #34 nationally in salary. And #12 in SEC, behind such luminaries as Mike White and Lamont Paris (SCe).
TBF, this information makes UF look cheap, when in fact he was a relative unknown quantity when he got the job. UF did take a bit of a chance on his future. The fact that he has ascended THIS quickly could not have been anticipated when He Who Can't Be Named signed him aboard. Even he says he didn't expect this so soon.
As was said he has rejuvenated GN to the likes we haven't seen in a long while. Yes UF overachieved in bb last year and got to the CWS, but with our pitching woes I'm not sure how confident many were we would win it. UF is now the talk of the town and we have a nucleus of players to continue a long run. Pay him!
Yeah if the talks haven’t started yet, they certainly should be. NCAA championship coach with 15+ years left coaching. At a minimum get him $6M per year (would place him 2nd to Cal according to something I read). Cal is the only coach on the list with a Natty in his resume. Show the commitment now before suitors come. Big programs came after BillyD and it became clear that leaving for the NBA would be his route. Make sure that’s how it would be with TG as well. Go Gators!
Back up the Brinks truck. He’s earned it. Maybe they can reimburse me for the nearly $8k that I’ve spent since the SEC tournament following the team around the country being the good luck charm!
Don't over-inflate your importance to this championship, pal. I conspicuously refused to watch a single live minute of any of our games, which was CRUCIAL to us winning them. It's not all you, you know. Many hands on this rope, my friend.
Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily fair to imply UF was cheap. He made $4M heading into this season. Now it's time to bump him up to the elite category. Well earned.
He just won a Natty only being the 5th highest paid coach in conference will feel like a slap in the face and he’ll definitely test the NBA as soon as next year. Give him what Billy Makes he’s earned it far more than Billy ever has.
Simply (if there is such a thing in non-blue blood basketball), the SEC TV contract, thanks to the football crazies, has changed the landscape forever. Now there are some want-to's out there in Athleticsland, but there is NO WAY we are going to allow the next Billy to atrophy because we are not "one of those programs." Had we not won in the Elite 8 then I could say the governor could have been on, especially when we pulled that stunt for White, but to win the whole enchilada and the way we did it? Silly Gator fans gotta silly Gator fan...
https://athlonsports.com/college/ke...k-pope-big-contract-news-ncaa-tournament-loss Pope extended and raised at Kentucky. A) Its good UK is content with Pope. B) UF must at least match. You don't want to wait until another school is knocking on the door to show your "love and commitment" to a coach. Because it often times will ring hollower because of "if you were so committed to me, why didn't you raise me before?", no different than going to quit a job and your boss trying to salary match the job you're departing for after refusing to give you a raise. Important to show it before it comes to that.
100%. He just won the natty at 39. We also need to bump up assistant pay. It's pretty low compared to the rest of the SEC.
While I agree, I think that you present a package that offers a GREAT incentive for accomplishments. A top 1/4 base salary and then all kind of incentive for league titles, conference tourney titles, NCAA appearances, advancements, final fours, championships. He’s shown he can lead us to them. Now go do it some more and stuff your bank account CTG !
Make him the top paid coach in the SEC. Why? Because no one in the conference has more Natty’s or upside than him. His floor is also probably the highest. And quite frankly, we can afford it with the TV contracts alone forgetting about boosters. Would be malpractice as an AD to not put up the dough and make a giant statement that if you win national championships at UF, you get massive financial rewards.
