Melanie Krause: Acting IRS commissioner resigning after agency reaches data-sharing deal with immigration authorities | CNN Politics

Krause’s decision to accept the agency’s deferred resignation offer comes on the heels of the IRS and Department of Homeland Security finalizing an agreement Monday to provide sensitive taxpayer data to federal immigration authorities to help the Trump administration locate and deport undocumented immigrants.

The controversial data sharing agreement between the agencies was one factor that played a role in Krause’s decision to leave, according to one source with knowledge of the situation. The source said that the last draft of the agreement that Krause had been involved with, and had reviewed, was different than the final agreement. Krause learned about the details of the final agreement from the news, the source said.

Good, The IRS needs a major overhaul anyways

    IT'S YOUR MONEY!

Also, we need a $1 trillion defense budget, tons of huge contracts for Elmo, a tax cut for the rich..... and we'll China will pay for it all with beautiful tariffs.

(Imagine believing this nonsense just because your reality TV cult Daddy said to. )

Looking forward to your substantive analysis and ideas of an IRS “major overhaul”.

I'll leave that up to Trump, since him and his team have been doing a great job on everything else

I had such high hopes for a thought provoking thread with some deep insight into the inner workings of the IRS and how it requires a major overhaul. Welp.

Good, the country will probably benefit from an expansion of the underground in economy in which immigrants are paid in cash. Probably part of the administration's plan to increase the deficit by reducing revenue since workers who get paid in cash and don't file tax returns do not pay taxes and that also includes social security payroll taxes and the Medicare tax not just income tax. I guess we should also remember that in Trump's utopia in which the US returns to the 1890s the IRS will become largely irrelevant since the overwhelming majority of revenue will come from tariffs.

Its sad how quickly Trumpers are willing to give up rights in exchange for owning the libs or because of fealty to dear leader.
Right to privacy, due process, free speech, congressional authority - who gives a shit about any of that if it upsets the libs?

We don't need the IRS to get it. Make everything a pay as you go consumption tax. No need to file or worry about Uncle Sugar coming after your bank accounts.

How do you propose the collection of taxes in a 320+ million person country with a complex economy without a large collection agency?

In other words a regressive sales tax of at least 30%.

Do you need a large collection agency to collect sales tax? No, you do not. If you tax consumption rather than income, there's no cheating and no need to worry about accounting or filing.

    Bottom of a pint glass
My quick interpretation of this is it's just going to discourage anyone here that is an immigrant (legal or illegal) from paying taxes for fear of their personal info being sued against them. Seems like a poorly thought out plan to stop illegal immigration.

It's not regressive, it's flat. If you want to make it progressive, tax luxuries more.

    Yes, actually, you do.

Sure, nobody would ever try to avoid a consumption tax. That is why there is about a 13% delinquency rate on state and local sales taxes (in which authorities have more contact with those engaged in the collection of the tax). Because nobody would ever try to avoid it by misclassifying or simply not reporting activity.

I'm talking about individuals, not corporations. When I walk out of the store, I'm done with it and don't have to worry about reporting myself every year. The IRS wouldn't need to be nearly as large if it could only go after businesses.

You think that all consumption happens at a store? Also, you think that businesses with more expertise and more motivation would be easier to investigate?

it would almost certainly be more than 30%. 30% only works if everything is taxed - houses, food, medicine health care, which would likely get carved out.
