By: Eric Fawcett -- April 8, 2025 Even though the confetti has just barely stopped falling from the Florida Gators’ National Championship victory the coaching staff already needs to be on the ball when it comes to building next year’s roster as the transfer portal has already been open for weeks. While the coaches have been putting almost all their efforts towards the Tournament run that ended successfully they have also had their finger on the pulse of possible targets, and one name is thought to be heavily in the mix to take over the Walter Clayton role in 2025-26. Xaivian Lee from Princeton. Transfer Portal Target–Princeton’s Xaivian Lee | GatorCountry.com
OK Hoops fans, get off that NIL wallet! Kid is obviously smart, 6'-4" scores 17 a game and shoots 41% from 3. I imagine a kid going to Princeton has good character, we will leave that up to the staff to determine. If that box checks, go get em!
ET - Assuming UF keeps everybody, including Urban K and Alexis, How many do you think UF will take out of the portal? 1, 2 maybe? I don't see room for many more IF we keep everyone.
41% off the dribble and 37% overall. 37 is still solid, but not 41 looking a bit deeper, he made 2 3s per game last year and increase his percentage by 10% first year and 3% last year to 37%. Should be able to increase more for next year. 79% FT shooter. Shoots 10 FTs per game.
I posted about him in the portal thread (that is apparently about whitewater rafting now) when he entered. Teammates for a year with Haugh at prep school. He really does fit the bill in terms of what Golden wants: taller/longer, older and experienced, able to run the show on the ball, good from 2 and 3, high usage rate, relatively low turnover rate, good rebounding rates. Hard to know how he will create against SEC defenses and how well he would defend at this level. His team wasn't great last year, but he was easily first among their starters in both defensive +/- and defensive win shares. On a much better team the previous year, he was still solidly second in both of those defensive categories in his first year as a starter (but was better on both scores defensively).
I mean, imagine a lineup with Lee at the one, Aberdeen at the two, and Haugh at the three--6'4", 6'5", and 6'9". That's NBA length. Add a 6'11" Condon and maybe a 7'1" Handlogten? That is insane length.
He's the 6th-rated PG overall & still available (edit). https://247sports.com/season/2025-basketball/transferportalpositionranking/?positionkey=31
It appears he's actually the best available since 4 of 5 above him are committed and the one that isn't is a 100% crystal ball to BYU
Looks like he’s the second rated of those still available. Unless you’re counting committed as available.
Respectfully…who gives a crap? Todd is looking for talent..character….a cohesive emotional team structure. Hasn’t he proven that he is a master? No guarantees of course, but if CTFG can do what he already has? Who can do better? Buying high price high school talent is less important than ever before. Just watch..see who we get. Screw the rankings. That is for children..especially in basketball.
