I mean I think its fair to ask where we rank historically. Who has ever faced a regular season gauntlet like we just did. Who has ever steamrolled through that strong of an SEC Tournament? Who has beaten two #1 teams AND two #1 seeds in the same season? I say nobody. Is it hyperbolic to ask if this may be the most impressive championship run that we have ever seen?
It has been one of the most impressive runs I have ever remember seeing in basketball. The regular season ending, SEC championship, and the NCAA tourney run are pretty epic.
This team had it all. Hard to really compare to the other championship teams (or near championship teams in ‘00 or ‘14) as those teams also pretty much had it all. This team may have played the most exciting style of basketball. The ‘04’s more explosive up front, this team more explosive at 1 and 2. Brewer was obviously a lottery pick with crazy length, but Richard contributed in very similar way (just doing a little of everything, making winning plays at the 3).
You can make a serious case for this being one of the best teams ever. Look at KenPom. Those 4 teams each win pretty easily most every year. And we just won it against all of them.
Not really interested at this moment in comparing these guys to the other champ squads, but the gauntlet they ran through was def the most difficult. Just an amazing accomplishment facing the this year's SEC, winning the SECt, then not seeing any upsets in the NCAAs to clear the field.
UConn last year was an animal, but they played nowhere near the gauntlet Florida did. Both Auburn and Houston were way better teams than the Alabama and Purdue teams they played in the Final Four.
I don’t think anyone has ever faced a true 12 game gauntlet down the stretch the way we did and go 12-0…
coaches Golden beat Dan Hurley (2x defending champs) John Calipari Rick Barnes (x2) Bruce Pearl (x2) Nate Oates(x2) Chris Beard Buzz Williams Kelvin Sampson SEC and National champs
Really brings in to context what UConn has done. We've had some incredible teams since 2000, and took all time greats to get 3. Have to tip your hat to that accomplishment.
Historical context: our overall NCAA Tournament aka Big Dance record is 52-20. That number hurts exactly who it is meant to hurt, and no one else. No one in college sports history is hurt by 52-20 like the Holes are hurt by 52-20. New Orleans in 1997 for our first football NC; San Antonio in 2025 for our third basketball NC. No matter the year, the team, the coach, or the decade....the Gators bring the pain to the Holes. Go Gators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's one thing to beat the great teams in the SEC tournament, the SEC was LOADED with talent this year. But this Gator team made it to a #1 ranking in the national tournament, and ran the table with one of the most difficult schedules in NCAA tournament history... AND WON IT ALL. The Florida Gators are the 2025 NCAA National Basketball Champions!
This guy makes the case that we made far and away the toughest run in NCAA tournament history, noting that along the way, we never played our best game. Florida Navigated the NCAA Tournament's Toughest Path to Win It All
Yeah. Agree. My point isn't so much head to head. (i e: Would this team beat the '04's?), as much as the toughest journey. I think the there may be better head to head teams, but Not sure anyone has ever accomplished what we just did.
