Hard to blame him though, only been here a few months....zero control of roster management coming in that late. How thornquist waits till fall to quit is mind numbing. Not to mention 2 of top 4 players basically have missed the season, the other 2 have missed time with injury, and now the top freshman playing #4 has missed last several matches....and cost them 2-3 wins ...either forfeit at 6 or now playing a walkon who gets destroyed every match
Certainly you are more knowledgeable than me and I get the issues, but even b4 the prior coach leaving I heard little criticism of the program here and that's ok. I just recall the long history of tennis success at UF and am surprised/frustrated at the slide. A good friend who is a retired teaching pro told me that he no longer follows the program due to frustration, but he is not one to comment on social media. On the other hand, I typically find it annoying to hear the "couch coach" comments in general, particularly related to coaches that have had plenty of recent success. Recently, I've read multiple long criticisms of both Walton and Sully from posters who are MIA during the good times and I know the posters arent so called trolls because they post on this forum and others. Just venting I guess. Would be great if all the programs were winning, then there would nothing to complain about I would hope.
Thornquist did great things....but the slide last 8 years or so had been pretty clear. Roster mismanagement was unbelievable, always shorthanded. Recruiting fell way off, and even development wasn't at the level of the past. It was a difficult situation, he certainly earned a very long leash....but he used every inch of it. And if you are leaving, announce immediately....not 6 months after season ended and leaving everyone in limbo and no ability to address roster issues It's a small miracle uf was able to get a well thought of coach to come into such an awkward situation
