At the Final Four, Florida-Auburn turns into the Walter Clayton Jr. show
He drove left, absorbed a blow from Auburn guard Denver Jones, then banked in a two-foot shot as the referee blew the whistle. After he made a free throw to complete the three-point play, Florida led 74-68 with 1:33 remaining. Despite all the time on the clock, the outcome was inevitable because of one undeniable factor.

Florida has Clayton, the best closer in men’s college basketball.

And Auburn did not.

 

I thought he was going to cry; he just knew they were going to win. Oops!

 

I know there has to be a period or exclamation point somewhere in there….

 

I am anxiously awaiting the final Clayton show.

What is so frustrating these days is that the National, or even the SEC, Coach of the Year isn't for the so-called Scheyers of the world but for the coach who did WAY more than anyone had anticipated. Pearl definitely did NOT. He had a prohibitive front running Player-of-the-Year candidate in his swan song appearance and a bunch of quality, well documented pieces.

Just a bunch of self-serving Yes-men idiots running the awards business. Methinks Golden will be crying...all the way to the bank and hopefully up the ladder to receive a token gift of string.

 

Tuesday morning headline in the Gainesville Sun:

Golden will have to begin rebuilding roster after the three biggest pieces to the NC are leaving.

 

The photo is about the best opportunity of capturing a live action event as there is. It is HARD to do this. There is an old adage in photo journalism that says "if you saw the shot, you didn't take the shot" and that is always true. You have to intuit what is about to happen and then be prepared to begin shooting just before it happens. And yes, 95 percent of the time you are just a bit off of the perfect time. This one is just plain perfect. Bravo!!

Too bad this wasn't in the finals game. It WOULD be an iconic image for the history of Gator basketball. It still may.

 

The new adage in photojournalism is set up your remote controlled cameras all around the court set to 20+ frames per second with 590 focus points.

It takes quite awhile to cull the best shots and edit but AI will do it all soon. And will be pulling images from full motion video at hundreds of frames per second.
