Breaking news: Gators sign Canadian 5-star running back Kerry DeBall.

I probably spelled the name wrong but it was an Alligator April Fools story that sucked Gainesville Sun sports editor Jack Hairston in.

I say that Jack Hairston was the sports editor but only if Gator football was the only sport. Even during the Summer Olympics the top story was always something to do with Gator football.

 

I used this joke on our son and daughter, both UF grads with a vested interest. Our daughter was apoplectic at the prospect and was near the ledge until I let her know. I completely forgot about April Fools Day but probably wouldn’t have caught it had I remembered!

 

I saw some posts on Facebook yesterday from some Gator groups, stating breaking news: Walter Clayton Jr. has been suspended. Lot of people fell for that as well

 

In the past, this was usually the time period right before the run-up to like a big bowl game, where we all held our breath - waiting for the inevitable 'so-and-so has been arrested' or 'came down with a sickness', and it was almost always one of our key best players

 

This lame thread should be deleted as a public service.

 

My initial response was deleted, rightfully so. Still not funny.

 

The Mark Sears gets an extra year of eligibility and decides to transfer to Auburn story had me for a couple of minutes until I checked it out. This stuff can give you a heart attack.

Not funny at all since this is the first time I've seen the thread and it's April 4th.

 

Sweet Jesus, did this thread actually require a retitling to keep some people from having conniptions? Gawd.

 

The retitling is actually what got me.

I know better than to click on a 2025 Covid outbreak, but the new title looks like a reaponse to FSU canceling our Thanksgiving weekend matchup 7 months in advance for "safety reasons'.

That isn't farfetched at all. 2-9 would be a glorious turnaround for them.

 

My favorite April fool’s day joke was in the alligator maybe in 84? They talked about the greatest running back recruit of all time that had committed to us. Carrie D. Ball was his name I think.
