defer and deflect is classic comeback! When you provide blatantly inaccurate info, it undermines everything about your post as pretty much talking out your backside....
It was once a great school for academics and athletics, today the former probably takes a backseat to the latter. The facilities are amazing! I just drove through the campus last week because my regular drive home was gridlocked, and I was astonished at how pristine everything looked and how much they've expanded. I don't think there are any schools in heaven, but if there were they would look like Montverde! It's like a half mile long on both sides of CR455. The basketball team has a long history of cranking out great basketball players! Oh and they just hired Steve Turner away from Gonzaga! Crazy! Might be the only time that players don't follow their coach to the new school, hehe!
After thinking about it I believe the high school kids make their money on the AAU circuit and playing at the basketball factories just help with name recognition and recruiting as well. The AAU coaches spray out some money to these kids as some of these guys are making crazy dollars with it. The sneaker companies are involved with the AAU coaches.
Anyone watching the McDonald’s All American game? Our name isn’t after any of their names for college .
McDonald's High School Basketball All American Teams | Basketball-Reference.com Florida's first three McDonald All-Americans that played with the Gators were Eugene McDowell (1981), Dwayne Schintzius (1986) and Stacey Poole (1988). The last ones that signed with Florida occurred in 2019: Tre Mann & Scottie Lewis.
The two guys we got coming are probably higher rated than any of the players on our current final four team.
as in “that chip has sailed”? Eugene the dunking machine. He couldn’t score outside of 3’ from the basket but was quite good in close. I remember him averaging 20 rebounds per game in HS.
This is one of the more odd “arguments” I’ve been in on these boards. I was making a presumptive hypothesis on why kids go to places like Monteverde and how they get kids in the door. If you have a different take feel free to post it. I don’t think my idea that they give kids scholarships to a place with name recognition is particularly controversial.
These kids definitely get financial aid, but they also go to Montverde to play for Kevin Boyle (who is a tremendous developer of talent). By the way, Kevin just left Montverde for Spire Academy in Ohio.
Serious question, who in the heck is funding this kind of acquired talent? No one else wants to play the game?
