Is Ingram expected to play SG or SF? Sounds like we’re going back to a traditional line up as Haugh was told he’ll start next year and I see that as SF. CJ could back him up at SF.
If this was the SEC from 5 years ago I would say sure run it back make the tourney and keep plugging. However this SEC is the best conference in the country now and most of these teams aren’t taking a step back. The difference in 12-6 a competing for a top 4 seed and 6-12 on the bubble could be very small. You have to always upgrade the roster where you can or you’re behind over night. Todd will figure it out I have full faith. We absolutely have to find a Point Guard and I’m confident he will.
With Lloyd as a 2, I expect Ingram to play mostly 3, though he could obviously play the 2 if needed. Not a good shooter or great ballhandler at this stage, but insanely athletic and physical, terrific defender and finisher, and really goes hard to the hoop and can get out in transition. Assuming Condon returns, I definitely see Haugh getting to play the 3. His shot has continued to to improve this year and his handles and passing have gotten better, too. I personally love him at the 4 because he is such a mismatch and rebounds so well, but have come around on the prospect of him on the wing. Needs to work on his left a bit (overly right dominant) and will have a tough against really athletic wings in space, but he also gives us great length out there.
in the two games I saw CJ play this past season against highly competitive teams, he was unable to score at the rim.
Finished fine in this game: And in these highlights: And these: CJ Ingram's Video "Montverde Academy (FL) - CJ Ingram Highlights" Point is, the kid still has a long way to go in his development, but he is active, athletic, physical, and competitive.
I don't get the haha. I have been watching and evaluating players in Florida and elsewhere for years and years. When you play a good team like IMG and you score 1 or 2 points for the entire game, it does tell you something about whether the player is ready for top notch competition. As I previously said about CJ, he has good size, he is athletic, and he is unselfish, but I don't expect him to be a significant contributor next season. In the past, I watched Thomas Haugh play a few high school games and reported that the kid was a big-time player, haha. I watched Chris Chiozza play 2 high school games and reported that he already was better than Kasey Hill, haha. I watched Patric Young and Fab Melo each play 2 games and reported that Patric was better than Melo when most Gator fans wanted Melo, haha. I watched Andrew Nembhard play 2 high school games and reported that he would be a pro, haha. I watched Kasey Hill play a few games and reported that he had great athleticism but was a long way from being a really good college player, haha. I could continue haha-ing for quite a while, but I will stop here. Am I ever wrong? Sure, but I have been saying for years that the best way to evaluate high school basketball players is to watch their high school teams (not shoe teams) play against great high school teams. The City of Palms, the state tournament, the old Tampa Christmas Classic, and, now, games that you can find on TV and YouTube are excellent ways of evaluating high school talent.
If I had a vote, I would just tell him to go pro, go overseas and get out of your head and comfort zone. Grow the heck UP!
