My understanding is they want to basically make the case the Houthis are acting on the orders of Iran and to justify attacking Iran if the Houthis keep doing their thing. They also want to escalate so they dont look like they are just doing what Biden did.

 

We did the same thing last Fall when we attacked Yemen.

If the US does bomb Iran the most likely targets will be the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities. An interesting question is whether we will also take out the factories that Iran is using to produce the drones that it's selling to Russia for use in Ukraine.

They won't need Iranian drones if they're handed Ukraine.

 

Good point since it's becoming increasingly obvious that Trump is pulling a Neville Chamberlain although that comparison is somewhat unfair to Chamberlain since he genuinely thought that Hitler would stop with the Sudetenland. Putin has made it clear that wants all of Ukraine plus the other countries that were either part of or controlled by the former Soviet Union and Czarist Russian Empire.

 

Trump doesn’t like Iran. I’d be worried if I were them.

He’s a little unhinged and wants to teach anyone who opposes him a lesson.

He said Ukraine is flirting with WW3 so maybe he’s doing it as a warning. Attacking Iran is worse than the Russia/Ulraine situation

 

We don’t have the power to hand them Ukraine. We only have the power to increase Ukraine’s ability to resist, not to eliminate it.

Yeah, they'd do it for show. Only reason you would as Iran is on the ropes right now. Their proxies in Lebanon are crushed, their ally in Syria is kaput, Israel has never been stronger and is about to ally officially with the Gulf States. Not to mention horrible economy, internal strife and rebel groups on the edges blowing shit up. Just wait them out and watch it die on the vine.

Well, if they do that, then that makes our decisions real, real easy, doesn’t it?

And what exactly are they going to conduct this attack with? The same missiles and drones that were so devastatingly effective against Israel? And does their defensive plan for our inevitable counterattack include those really cool Russian missiles that contemptuously swatted down all of the Israeli warplanes without taking a single friendly casualty?

Well, the regime anyway. I have absolutely no quarrel with the Iranian people. If the regime makes it necessary for us to put in a bomb in every single one their IRGC headquarters, religious police station, etc, then that would not break my heart one bit.
