Sir Charles has felt Florida was the best team in the tournament, and he even felt they were at halftime. Apparently, the second half must have changed his tune. As he commented, the better team lost. I am not a great commentator of basketball, as that is not my expertise. Perhaps, there was a context I did not realize, and Barkley meant Texas Tech was the better team that day. In my amateur opinion, the better team figured out how to win!
TT played better with the exception the last 3 mins of the game. We didn’t execute our game plan, they did. I think that’s what he’s saying. They did everything they had to do to win, and somehow we got it done. They had to hit threes to win, and they did. They had to get second chance points to win, and they did that. Them missing 2 front ends of 1-1 were crucial in us getting back into the game. Our guys gutted it out.
They played better you say, but TT was behind at the half. So you think they played better the first half then Florida did? Of course they were behind at the end of the second half also. Funny how a team that played better ended both the first half and the game on the losing side of the scoreboard.
Charles picked Florida but I get his comment. TT owned most of that 2nd half until the gators decided they didnt. TT had it going so well and credit to Golden's genius for.the opportunity to tip the scale.
It does sound weird to say, but I kinda felt like they brought their A, A- game and we brought our B-, C+ game. We were just that much better than them. They implemented their game plan very well and did what they wanted to do on both ends of the floor. TG alluded to this in the postgame. I did not really feel like we were able to do what we wanted to the entire game on either end, we just made it work anyway and we closed out the game on another level. Even with the way we closed out, we needed some luck at the end. If they make their front ends, it’s likely a different game. Risky strategy, but a great one, and we were all but out of options at that point.
We played like we expected to win the game at the end, and they played like an underdog the last 3 minutes that realizes it was getting away from them. Their 6/7 3 point shooting early in the game cooled off to a lower percentage than ours by games end. We were the better team.
TT had a great game plan, loads of talent, a game being called in a way that favored their style of play, and got off to a great start. They got the game to a point where the Gators needed to play perfectly for the duration to have any chance. They blew two 1 and 1 chances and opened the door for us. We just walked through that door. The better team hit their free throws. Added in edit: Any Gator fans now want that crazy way to end the game with the clock off with 4 minutes to go?
As I have said plenty of times, college basketball is pretty provincial and so in order to get/keep eyeballs on the screen, the pundits need an angle. Sir Charles is both profound and usually entertaining. But he is not always correct. You play the game and you wait until the clock strikes 0.000 to determine who was the best in that game. Otherwise, all you are doing is driving an agenda. And as I said, the main agenda is to keep the eyeballs on the screen.
I would ask Charles if Texas Tech and Florida played a 7 game series, who would he take money on? Because hopefully it would make him realize that Texas Tech shooting out of their minds to start the game for the first half ISNT Texas Tech as in, the team when you sum up all their games into an average. Furthermore, ALL 3 of Florida guards having 0 3s well into the second half isn't average, nor a product of how hard Texas Tech was playing. Florida was getting wide open looks and they just werent falling. And it didn't even take a series. The GAME made the averages average out. Texas Tech cooled off immensely and Florida got red hot in the last 5 minutes. Texas Tech brought their A+ game and coaching scheme. The scheduled Time outs by the TT were a brilliant counter to Florida's depth. But averages and double edged swords came into play: it meant it he didn't have many (I think he had 1 in the last 2 minutes) when he fell behind. Florida had a B- game besides shooting. So, in a 7 game series, the averages would REALLY play out and they would have to deal with several A+ Florida games, who wins? My money would be solidly on UF
The better team went 4-4 from 3 when it mattered. And the better team went 4-4 from the line when it mattered. And the better team is going to San Antonio.
So Sir Charles is saying if a 100 meter race has one guy ahead for 99 meters but loses the race, the better runner lost? Basketball is a game of 40 minutes, not 37 minutes. Either that, or maybe Arkansas was the better team in their game.
Based on their game plan, yes. We are the better team, but you have to admit we were not executing and our threes were not falling. We shouldn’t get all out of our minds when a commentator like Barkley says the better team lost, he means on that night they did what they needed to do to win, but lost. Barkley has also been saying how much he loves Florida.
I thought Texas tech had a great game plan. Take away the three and force our bigs to make shots. It almost worked.
The two missed front ends and the missed wide open 3…They were a tired team. They played superb the whole second half but couldn’t close because of, in my opinion, fatigue caused by our depth. Were we lucky or did the game plan have to be executed to the final seconds to win, i.e. wear the other team out. I think it was the latter against a really good team. This was the EE after all, not some “Sunshine Shootout” in December against a second rate team. TT is really, really good and has been all year long. I say again, it took until the horn but maybe our depth ended up winning the game for us per our game plan all year. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Look at the game this way: The game was tight all the way to the 11:04 mark of the 2nd half: 11:05 55-55 (tie) 11:04 55-57. Federiko tip in (-2) 7:49 57-67. Federico dunk (-10) 3:14. 66-75 Toppin layup (-9) 0:00. 84-79. Gators win! (+5) So they outplayed us for 3:15 (11:04-7:49) to take a 10 point lead. We kept it at 9-10 pts for the next 4 1/2 minutes until 3:14, then outplayed them by a larger margin (18-4) to win the game. So their run was a 10pt differential in 3:15 minutes, and our run was a 14pt differential in 3:14 minutes. Why again were they ever the better team? Simply because their run came 1st? The game was essentially a stalemate except for those two runs, and ours was way better. Our run ended the game, giving them no chance to answer it.
It's the postseason. No longer interested in who the best team is...just who scores the most points. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
We’ve had some heartbreaking tourney games over the years where we should have or at least could have won and we lost. Nice to see us on the right side of things yesterday. Onward.
