Pure nonsense. I was in Raleigh. 5000-6000 loud and supportive Gator fans. Thousands in San Fran. Golden (the next Billy D) repeatedly looked up and appreciated their support. Great to see. Go Gators!
I'll say it again: GC needs to set up an interview with @twodaparty who took on the "represent all fans" mantle and gave us a great story of travelling to this game. I think he would be a superb source to confirm/deny the Gators that travelled. Living in Knoxville for 30 years I have always appreciated everyone that comes up here when we play the Vols. Going on the road to see an epic victory is a wonderful thing.
It sounded like the crowd was super into the last 3 minutes. When Clayton hit the go-ahead three, sounded like a plane taking off. When Haugh passed up an open 3, you could hear a groan.
I have a feeling even non-Gator fans in that arena had to be pulling for us. That really was an “instant classic” moment happening right in front of them.
Gator section was pretty tame Thursday. But far more UF fans last night (not surprising), and the comeback definitely had non-partisans engaged.
This is a nice sentiment and I wish it was true, but it's not. Gator fans do not travel well, especially out of state, and especially when you consider the size of our alumni base. It's a complicated topic, but having traveled all over the country for college sporting events for the last 30 years, my experience does not support that this is 'pure nonsense'. I will say the UF turnout in SF yesterday was better than I expected, but if we're talking hoops specifically, it was nowhere near what you'd see from the blue bloods. If you're a Gator fan thinking about the Final Four...GO! This team is special.
I flew out tomSan Francisco for the game. Thousands of Gator fans Thursday and many more Saturday. I was honestly shocked how well we traveled.
If that's the measuring stick, then no matter how you slice it, we've come a LONG way. If you've been doing it for 30 years, you've absolutely seen growth in demand to see the team play. If you measure just by Final Four interest, look at how much higher it is in 25 years between Indianapolis and what we will have this year in San Antonio. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
We had more fans at the 2006 Final Four in Indy than the other 3 schools combined. Not exaggerating. We had a huge crown advantage. My student buddies and I slept in the downtown streets on air mattress for front row seats. There were a few hundred Rowdy Reptiles camped out. We had brown paper bags of booze and the police were awesome watching our back making sure we were safe. No other student section showed up early. We absolutely killed it in traveling that Final Four. I honestly don’t expect that kind of turnout for San Antonio but hopefully I’m surprised. I’m trying to be there to do my part. As for San Francisco, that was about a good of turnout for Florida fans as you could have expected with it being across the country. We definitely had more fans there than Texas tech but they were louder most of the game. For good reason. We didn’t get much of a chance to make a ton of noise until late, and boy did we make up for it. Felt like the O’Dome those last 3 minutes.
My travel there was a nightmare. I don't think I'll use Gainesville airport anymore. Your options when delayed are minimal. I arrived in San Francisco Thursday morning at 2:30 AM. I left San Francisco on a red-eye flight Saturday night at 12:35 AM. Had to run through Charlotte airport with only 35 minutes to board flight to Gainesville. Was last person to board! LOL. Traveling isn't fun these days.
I've been to every Final Four UF has been in. The all-time high turnout was Atlanta. Literally more than half the fans there were Gators. Indy was an amazing turnout, the second go round particularly. Dallas we had as many fans as the other teams.
106-111 per the ticket office. I passed on tickets to Saturday and Monday in section 106 for $1,475 I think ticket prices drop as the game approaches. Plus I’m going to buy Saturday only and then if the good guys win will snag a Monday ticket from the losing fan base.
