With our fifth Final Four and ninth Elite Eight, conference titles and NCAA appearances. Here goes. Duke, Ktucky, UNC and Kansas. (of course much of their success was paying players under the table). Michigan State and UCONN. Then us. Villanova next. That is all.
I still harbor resentment for Mateen Cleaves role in breaking our hearts but isn't Izzo/MSU considered a consistently high-level program also? Edit: Missed the St after Michigan above.
Since 2000……. ranking in order…..weighing heavier on championships, then FF, then E8. Elite 8/Final 4/Title 1. UConn - 8/6/5 2 UNC 10/7/3 3. Kansas 11/6/2 4. Florida 9/5/2 (tbd) 5. Villanova 5/4/2 6. Mich St 10/7/1 (tbd) 7. Kentucky 9/4/1 8. Duke 10/6/0 (tbd) Currently, we are 4. We could move to 5 if MSU wins the title. We could also move to 3rd if we win the title.
@outbackjack : Update your data and get Duke right. It's a good way to look at it but ignoring 3 national titles is big miss.
I do not like hurley, but UCONN's last 25 years is wild. They have won titles with 3 different guys. Duke, UNC, Kansas, MSU, UK, nova and most of UFs success has all been under 1 coach. To do it with 3 different coaches is pretty incredible. I know Duke and UF have now gotten back with a new coach, but most of these accomplishments were under Donovan and K.
We are a blue blood. That simple. Six FFs, 3 different coaches, 4 different decades. 2 NCs in that time. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Yeah, it's ridiculous. And I think I remember someone pointing out how many times they also missed the tournament, during that span. Not saying that to detract from them. Just crazy how they're able to capitalize EVERY time they're good. I think they have the same number of final fours as they do titles over that span.
I wouldn't consider us a Blue Blood, but we are getting there. Also, we will be wearing our blues for the next game!
I rather be new blood than blue blood. Blue blood are schools who have played 30 plus more seasons than the rest and won many games. Yet, some of these so called blue blood have yet to win a ncaa tournament title.
