After Cahalan’s Double playin the 1st inning, Keagan looked like herself again. She must have said to herself, “My team has my back. I’m OK.” She then pitched a great shut outgame through her 90 pitches (pitch count). Not bad for being off for 34 days.
If there's a runner on 3B, she glares at her and won't give the ball to the pitcher until the first baseman trots in and is standing on the plate. We had enough runners on 3B during the game that this got old pretty fast. From the thread yesterday explaining that her actions are a result of a mental problem, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. That is, until...... When the Auburn pitcher started walking in runs, the catcher angrily screamed at her, "Do better! Do better! Throw strikes!" It was pretty nasty.
Just got back from the game and read the PBP thread (thanks, MCB51!) I think it can now be revealed that Rick has both coaches on speed-dial. He says it here, and it happens on the field. And that's exactly what happened. Since I don't know jack, I was sort of surprised. The radar gun had her stuff fast and she didn't seem that off. But I've always admitted I don't know crap about pitching. And it happens two batters later.
Maybe that is reflection of their coaching staff. I cannot imagine Jocey doing that. She always seems to be in a supportive command of her picture, like a field pitching coach. Reflective of OU coaching staff
CTW gave a lot of credit to Katelyn Towers, the senior athletic trainer, for the rehab of Keagan, kudos to Katelyn. She is the “thin one” who ran out like she was ‘Kendra’ all of last year to the player. The junior athletic trainer, Lindsey McIlwain, runs to check out the injured player now.
That’s not cool. Not all teams are fortunate enough to have saucy Jocey on their roster or the team chemistry our ladies have! No wonder auburn is a mess.
All for Alex weekend. All of the SEC did it. Ovarian cancer awareness. Lookup Alex Wilcox from Mississippi State if you don’t know the story.
I don’t think it’s a coaching staff problem. Maybe from the old one, but not this new one. I really think they have to play her because they don’t have another that can catch pitches.
Another catcher came in at the end of the game so they have another. As annoying as the starting catcher is she did do a great job blocking a lot of bad pitches like Rick pointed out. However berating your own pitchers is just horrible. Imagine their locker room vibe. Can’t be great.
Gotta get the sweep tomorrow and I’d prefer we secure it in dominant fashion. Good pitching, great defense and explosive offense. I think Taylor hits two homers tomorrow and one double just to make Rick happy. She’s a gap hitter yall lol!
The coaching staff does not appear to be discouraging this negative teammate/locker room vibe. I still cannot see CTW allowing this or Jocey doing this.
I think the married couple coaches are in over their heads. They didn’t really walk into a great situation either. In time maybe they can figure it out and right the ship. Just not tomorrow lol.
And I'd prefer we get it in with a minimum of sitting around waiting on weather. Forecast has improved some and becomes very good in the evening. I know there's an SEC policy on not starting a game after 10PM (or something like that) but don't know whether they permit sitting around for eight hours before starting. Since its getaway day, we have an 11AM start, so lots of time to work with.
Rothrock seemed more of a strikeout pitcher today than usual. 7 Ks and only 1 bb in 4 2/3 was great given the umps tight zone.
It's all good. @apkgator is a great poster. Been around a long time. Sometimes we see things differently. All good.
