None of my forebears fought on either side in the Civil War. They all had bone spurs.

I doubt they want to hide records. They probably just want to quit using slavery as a tool to drive a wedge between the races. I hope he ends 'juneteenth' as a federal holiday.

It wasn't built on hate--it was built on control. Domination and subjugation. Slave owners did not hate their slaves--they just needed them to do the work so they could remain the aristocracy class and be lazy and live a life of leisure on someone else's blood, sweat, and tears. They also needed them to be subservient and humble, so they could feel superior.

One of my ancestor/relatives died in the Civil War as an officer on a Union ship in the St. Johns River, not far from where we moved to (cross country) 110 years later.

Way too subtle a differentiation for the MAGA crowd. They are just at the level of understanding that potatoes and tomatoes are different things.

I knew to whom you were referring although that description is much more applicable to the former reality television star who was elected to the presidency with a 1.6% margin and his followers with a white supremacist bent who worship him like the leader of a cult that he is. The best example that followers of Trump are the real snowflakes in their reaction to version of the Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in which the assassinated Caesar character was loosely based on a Trump-like leader. MAGA nation completely freaked out while there was no similar reaction among liberals to a version of the play in which the Caesar character was roughly based on Barack Obama.

I told a MAGA acquaintance that I hadn't done a lot of research but I thought I would support Nikki Haley in the Republican primary.
He asked me if I cared about our future. We are both in our 60s. He said mainstream politicians have been in charge our whole lives. They haven't done anything about the border, the deficit, health care costs, or social security going broke. He argued that supporting any mainstream politician was giving up.
While I didn't vote for Trump he knew a potato from tomato and his argument was, by orders of magnitude, better than any argument I've read from you

Politicians have done very well for themselves while 'serving us'. If that bothers anyone, they need to at least acknowledge that Trump's rocking a boat that needed to be rocked.

As a reminder, Trump has pardoned quite a few corrupt politicians and has basically legalized business corruption.

Takes off my Trump sneakers, puts down my Trump bible. Glances at my portfolio of Trump Coin and Melania Coin, glances at the no-return fees-only balance in my Kushner-run investment fund ........ agrees; yes, Trump is "rocking this boat" because he cares deeply about politicians "doing very well for themselves."

Similarly, Elon Musk, the guy who (like Trump) never pays taxes, and paid out $280 million in campaign donations to buy massive govt influence ....... is doing all this solely because he's tired of, what is it again, ... oh, yeah - politicians doing well for themselves.

(Imagine actually believing any of that. :))

And what would he say to the decorated and respected 37 members of his cabinet that told you what a unqualifued pos he is. J6? Documents? All there. Obviously he doesn't know a potato if he can tell who led and cheered the assault on the capital.

Smart money is keeping true history, not erasing it…you know so we can learn from it.

I guess being worse on corruption does count as "not being perfect" on corruption.

Libs are the ones who consistently want to categorize and treat people by race.

There was universal support among the non-racists (including republicans and democrats) in American society, especially for taking the Confederate monuments out of the public square. I don't personally have a problem with having Confederate statues in museums and historic battlefields. Having them in the public square (center of town, etc.) is an indication that the people of the town support the things that the Confederates fought for; namely, the preservation of the institution of slavery.

You are right, however, that the non-racists apparently did not stay in power forever.

Maybe the mainstream politicians were doing something about those problems--namely, keeping a lid on them so they did not get that much worse. There aren't any easy answers to securing a 1,950 mile-long border. People are living longer, but not working longer, and they expect the same level of retirement benefits that their parents got, even though their parents smoked like chimneys and killed themselves in their 70's. No easy answer for that, either. Cutting 5-10% of the SSA employees is not going to address the major cost of SS, which is the payments to the recipients. The deficit is not a huge problem, with the exception of the 1-2 years we were spending like crazy on a Covid vaccine (which was kinda necessary). The federal debt has not been a serious problem since the 1970's and first couple of years in the 80's (largely due to spending on the Vietnam War in the 1970's)--hint: that's when inflation was high. Besides, if you wanted to have a leader reduce the federal debt, why pick the idiot that increased the federal debt by a trillion dollars a year in his first three years in office (2017-2019), AND literally claimed that he "liked playing with debt"?

Trump is busy destroying your future. The tariffs, and his arrogant foreign policy, are destroying the U.S. economy as well as your ability to afford things in the future. Your next car just went up in price by an average of $12,000--all because of Trump. His support of Russia (and dictatorships in general) is likely to guarantee a future war with U.S. troops that might cost $10 trillion or more, even though that war will likely occur after Trump leaves office. The buildup to that war will cost several trillion dollars. Trump has no intelligent plan for dealing with immigrants, other than to pay a country in central America to lock them up and abuse them, while he thinks about some way to build a Great Wall of Mexico. The only thing worse than if Trump fails in his immigration ideas is if he succeeds, since we desperately need these people to pick our fruits and vegetables, and work in meat packing factories and construction jobs. They do jobs that Americans will not do, and they keep down the average crime rate in America. Is that so horrible?

    Oh.

    "They're rapists."

    "They're eating the dogs."

"I saw thousands of Muslims celebrating 9/11 in New Jersey."

Which side elected someone whose campaign strategy includes a huge dose of racist lies?
