So you have no sources. Got it.

Why wouldn’t he stay? Was Florida Donovan’s “forever job”? Nova and Wright? Baylor and Drew? Gonzaga and Few? Nova and Wright? UVA and Bennett? Bama and Oats? We aren’t Rhode Island or Buffalo or Butler. This also isn’t college football. We have massive resources, a large fanbase, elite facilities, and a record of success in a great conference. A good coach can stay here for a long time, get paid very well, and win at the highest level.

...or we can have all those things, be all those things, and for reasons known wholly to the person in the job, they may want to go and do something else. The OP seems to imply I am naive to believe a) "this is a forever job" and b) others are not coming after Todd and c) that he is "hearing stuff" that indicates an imminent change e.g "won't be here much longer", in our basketball head coach. Go read the original post near the top of the prior page and his subsequent reactions to, among others, my call out. Maybe I am the one who's erred but it sure read the way I laid it out. So let's break it down.

No coach is in a "forever job.', especially in this day & age. The better you do as a coach, the more likely it is that other programs with a need will seek your interest in an opportunity elsewhere. I am glad we have a coach that inspires such speculation. And I would hope UF's leadership make efforts to do what is prudently and fiscally necessary to retain our present coach. And it's possibly not merely financial consideration. The fact that UF took a chance on him might inspire some sense of obligation, and that might give us an advantage in retaining him. The administration might also, behind closed doors, have been substantially supportive of the efforts to dispute the allegations against him, which I would remind us that many on here were all-too-quick to cast a pessimistic outcome to those aspersions. It's possible UF displayed a willingness to stand beside/behind Todd in a way that further deepened the relationship, making him more likely to stay on in spite of other offers. OTOH, maybe in spite of support and stuff, the Golden's prefer to leave this sordid incident behind and start fresh. People would have to accept that. UF is a good job. People leave "good jobs" all the time, and for lesser reasons than having your good name trashed on national media by unsubstantiated rumor. I would hope that wouldn't be the case but a man's reputation is something many of us still hold dear. It doesn't make a poster "wiser" than us rubes when we believe a man could be very happy coaching here for as long as UF and the man are on the same page.

Oddly enough, UF's admin can do all the right things, pay all the right amounts, say all the right words and a coach can still leave for reasons more important to them than anything UF does or says. So the implication that UF fans are rubes for thinking anyone would seriously wish to stay here and be our coach forever is a straw man that is not what most fans think. I'm not naive; Gainesville isn't the economic/social center-of-the-universe. But to imply, no; state authoritatively that a poster is "hearing stuff" about the imminent departure of our head coach, without any supporting information, without anything beyond a vague assertion, and then react defensively when called out on it is confounding, to say the least.

Hope you are right. I listen to basketball podcasts . And more than once on different shows this has been brought up. These guys know what’s going on out there. So there are my sources. You called me a liar which pissed me off.

Fair enough! Like I posted to Ranger I listen to more podcasts than I should but this conversation is out there. From a blue blood school to an NBA organization. As I posted to him there are my sources.

IMO, it seems the UConn SID is also a punk. Their MBB SID threatened the reporter who captured Hurley's very bad sportsmanship and, not wanting the truth out there, threatened that reporter if he didn't erase what had happened . . . and then tried to spin the entire narrative.

Podcasts have little value. Blow hards preying on your gullability. Stick to professionals like Harry and Fawcett. Both of them will likely report facts about Golden's extension and recruiting success in coming weeks.

Yep. I understand Florida Basketball NIL is as strong as any school and Coach Golden really appreciated, and appreciates, the strong support he got through those unfounded allegations against him last summer/fall. He may one day decide to test his coaching in the NBA. Nothing we can do but enjoy the ride anyway.

On another note, an asteroid is going to smash into the earth and all of this rhetoric will be moot. I GUARANTEE it!

Now, about the timing of it...

The AD just has his lips firmly attached to Hurley's posterior. He would most likely do a lot of things to keep that scumbag employed by UConn.

You don’t think Billy Donovan was on a bunch of radars while he was here? There is no reason our administration can’t do what’s necessary to keep him. They already upped the NIL.

Dude, Im the one that said after last season during the UK coaching search that Golden might end up on their radar and got some flak for it. (Then they hired Pope and people realized they were looking at lot..."lower" on the tree of coaches than expected)
So when I tell you that this isn't quite the burger your think it is, please understand that I understand that I understand full well, and did very early where Golden would end up.
This was inevitable. If you get a 1 seed and/or make a final four at a non-blue blood program, your name is gonna be linked to every major opening that comes up for the next several years.
But it also doesn't mean that he's currently the target of any search actively. He may or may not be. Who knows? But I can assure you that anyone linking his name is just speculating in the same sense that fake psychics "cold read" as in, they take shots that are likely to be true but are non-committal in hopes of hitting something and getting a reaction that they can then get the person to tell them information that they can then use to make more readings.

If you say his name and he moves on you look like the genius, and if he doesn't no one remembers. This is the youtuber/podcaster gambit.

His name will, invariably, actually come up in some big name coaching search. The university just has to make sure they've "laid the groundwork" the best they can with a healthy compensation package, culture and support system for him that he turns down the possibility because he's happy with what he has. And if he's always the type to look for greener pastures, its not gonna matter. But I will say an increasing number of college coaches in football and basketball are turning in to type A: Finding a niche at a place like Kentucky, Baylor, Mississippi State, etc that has major resources but not major expectations and settling down there and saying its not worth trying to be another churned out coach at the big boys.

    Well.

If I may...that post at the top of page 62 was NOT "That's all I'm saying". Asserting that Todd Golden "...Won't be here much longer..." "...hearing stuff..." is a very different thing, IMO, than other's later observations like, "You know, Todd's really young & talented and others are going to come after him." or even "I hope he stays a long time but..." which you now seem to say was your intent originally.

"Won't be here much longer" is a pretty incendiary assertion, IMO. A valid opinion, I guess, but to state it as based upon facts of which you have specific knowledge was irresponsible.

And if my asking for clarification of your vague prose, and being frustrated at the pot-stirring intent, as I perceived it, is "panties in a wad", I'd hate to see what you'd say if I was genuinely troubled. I tried to fairly, and without ad hominem language, address why I found your post 'confounding'. It dropped in, on that thread, out of the blue. I also might add I have great regard for your basketball knowledge, your contributions to the board, and your standing here. It lends your observations disproportionate weight over an un-wired, non-basketball knowledge goober like me.

My panties are not in a wad.

What Golden has done so quickly at UF is almost a miracle. I can see why he would be on the UNC radar or even the Kansas radar. I would hope that he doesn't drink that kool-ade. Pope is a Kitty and has done very well so he has a grace period with the UK fans. Actually a decent coach that will under perform by the insane UK standard and eventually be forced out.
