ask your doctor if banning big pharma ads is right for you. Long overdue. Market to health care providers all you want. It has gotten ridiculous.

Too bad we cannot ban unqualified, incompetent liars from cabinet positions.

The billions they spend are not really for marketing. They spend billions to control the narrative with the networks. Those networks will never come out and share negative news because they are making too much money. It's really just hush money.

write it into the tax code along with all the other marketing crap they write off. I'm fine with that, agree with it

Doctors must hate it when a patient walks in, self-diagnosed from WebMD, demanding a prescription they saw on a commercial.

When she is listing the places that you can put it and goes from under boob and then she says "thigh fold" but when I heard it I thought she said 5 hole.
There is no way any woman is going to put that in her 5 hole.

Think getting rid of pharma ads on tv would be a bipartisan thing, but we have some real nutjobs on here so I'm sure some will defend it.

It seems pharma + ins is 90% of commercials. For kicks I looked up either Geico or progressive's income statement & their ad expense was well over $100 per policy.

Geico used to be kind of a outlier in insurance with their ad expenses, but I think the success of the caveman and lizard made every other company think they needed a memorable character or goofy celebrity in your face during every sporting event. They rode ads to move from obscure government employee insurer to a huge share of the auto market.

Let’s get rid of the pharma ads.

And while we’re doing good things at the expense of the outermost tier of the First Amendment, let’s figure out a way to overturn Citizens United.

The ads cause people to wonder if they have the disease, and then run to the doctor and ask about it and then the med. it’s educating consumers about things like restless leg syndrome and telling them what to do if they have it. They are performing a service!

That seems like a lot. Progressive has a lot of policies writing in every state pretty much and writing auto, home, motorcycle, RV's, commercial trucks, business autos , renters policies, golf carts and ATV's just off the top of my head. They write business through almost every independent agent in the business and also direct online.

Agree although the demand for useless prescriptions isn't anything new. Parents of children with the common cold have demanded that pediatricians write prescriptions for antibiotics for decades even though those meds are useless for viral infections.

I know we’re not supposed to do our own research, but for some screwy reason I do.

The doctor I used to see never pushed medications (or vaccines) on me, but he did recommend statins.

Though slender and active my LDL has always been “high.” I share the cholesterol profile of my mother and grandmother who lived into their 80’s and 90’s.

My doctor shared a study that suggested that, given my “elevated” LDL I had an 11% chance of having a heart attack in the next ten years.

I asked him what my risk would be if I took statins. Answer: 8%.
