My parents wanted to attend the games this weekend. The school allotment was so small, it was sold out Mara fly to boosters and season ticket holders.
Meanwhile, these early games appear almost empty.
Why not get more tickets to the schools??

In some big games I’ve been surprised at the open seats, especially down low.

All of those open seats were owned by Duke fans.

    Still in church.

that was a big discussion amongst fans there, I had people sitting around me that came from the upper section in the 2nd half against Norfolk, no reason for it to be that empty

So you’re wanting single game tickets requiring the venue to empty out after the 1st game? Interesting concept. Guess if they can see the cost benefit.

While I understand the problem, there's something to keep in mind. Particularly during first round games. There are eight regions with eight teams. So, the challenge is getting tickets in the hands of those eight teams, and the locals that want to see the games. Add in that travelers only have a week to plan a trip. In some cases, a long and expensive last minute trip. The result is less than full arenas. They also pod out sections of the arenas for each team. So, during game one, there is a pod with one teams fans and a pod with the other teams fans. Which does nothing for the TV view. Once that games is over, 90% of those two sections clear out. That gets repeated over the course of four days. I saw it first hand a few years back when there was a Regional here in Jacksonville.

As others have said, every open seat you saw during the Florida game today was very likely a Duke fan that hadn't shown up yet. And to be fair, by the second half of the Duke game the Florida section was fairly empty as well. This is normal, same ticket for both games, unless its the final four fans don't always show up and stay for both.

yes. I think they should sell single game tickets. Clear ‘em out and start over for game 2.

I understand. But they should fix it. plenty of fans for both games missed out, while thousands of seats sat empty.
Have individual game tickets. Yeah- it requires some logistics… but fix it.

Concur. It shouldn’t be so difficult to get tickets.

I believe there are TWO regions played at every site, they called them “pods”.

In the 1st round effectively two double headers, one double header from each region. They play two games in one session. Clear everyone out, play two more games. It would be too crazy to clear fans out four times. In rd two it’s just one double header. Unfortunately in this case was only 25 miles from the Duke campus. Most other sites are probably just happy to sell out the tickets, so I guess they don’t consider those scenarios where 1 fanbase can pretty much buy all the tickets for the entire double header.

Yes- that is the setup. I think they should clear everyone between games in round 2.

I was at the game. Idk man. Clearing out 10k+ people for every game and bringing them back in is a nightmare. If you wait to right before the game, you can at least get in the building cheap. The first round was like 50 bucks at that time. Today's game was different. We bought our tickets for $400 each last week.

I can see it being a disaster for the opening round, with 4 games.
But the second round has two games. And tv makes it appear as far less than 10k.
I know the logistics aren’t easy, but it’s a shame to see so many empty seats.

In the second half, my section was packed. Granted, I was in the lower bowl.

I get it, but don't hold your breath for this change. Overall this would make the fan experience worse, as getting two games out of one ticket is nice.

The demand problem in Raleigh this time around is not common across most first round sites (and is why they host so often). Lexington was probably the only other site that had a similar level of demand this year.

The only way I could think to fix the second round of the weekend issue, which is probably the reason they do groupings in the first place would be to sell something like implied/agreement/batch tickets.
As in, lets say the face is $50 for each game, you have to buy $100 for each ticket, as in you have to buy tickets for both games for your school, up front.
If your team doesn't make it, your 2nd game ticket is void and the university refunds you the difference.
