Confused as to what law or regulation was used to look into this guy's phone to discover these things in the first place. I don't think it's practical to look at every foreign visitors phone for stuff against Trump.
What seems more likely is this guy started talking shit about Trump in front of some Trump supporters and those Trump supporters started the ball rolling to get him investigated and then kicked out.

Dude is a scientist not someone trying to evade cops, so he probably just had face ID to unlock his phone. All you have to do is hold up someone's phone to their face, and its open season, you dont even have to ask for a password in that case. Probably wouldnt have happened if he'd flew through a place that had some kind of preclearance arrangement with US customs, there is probably a difference in chud tendencies between the US customs people that work overseas (or in Canada) vs. here in the US.

 

Agree, but why single him out? There are probably a ton of visitors that don't like Trump coming here with stuff on their phones about it.
He brought attention to himself about it somehow and the wrong people took it to the nth degree.

 

Could have been totally random selection. Or the they flagged him based on how he answered why he was visiting, or something he wrote on his customs slip. I'm pretty sure I was once selected for an "aggressive" pat down in the UK because I hadnt shaved in a week, and looked like a scum bag.
