Warren Sapp files $20 million lawsuit after wrongful arrest in Okeechobee, FL



NFL Hall of Famer and current Colorado assistant coach Warren Sapp is filing a $20 million suit against police after alleging a wrongful arrest last year in Okeechobee, Fla., according to a report from FOX Sports 640’s Andy Slater.

Details about the arrest were not immediately available, though Slater included a video that appeared to show police taking Sapp into custody.

Slater noted the state attorney dropped the charges against Sapp just days after the interaction, noting the actions of the police were not legal.

Desmond Marrow, a former NFL player, sued after a violent arrest and reached a settlement for a record amount for a non-death, officer involved use of force case in Henry Co, Ga. He was choked by an officer who ended up pleading guilty to a criminal charge, gave up his LEO cert, and got a year of probation. It looks like there was a coverup, big suprise.

Back in 2019, attorney L. Chris Stewart painted Henry County's internal investigation as an attempted cover-up that only failed because of the attention Marrow could command as a former football player.

He said the Henry County Police Department produced two different internal reports based on the same materials – one that said Rose was “polite and courteous” immediately after the incident, and another that said he used excessive force once the case gained media attention.

“Because he wanted to know why he was suddenly being arrested, both officers lifted the subject by both legs, bringing him down on his head," the border officer said, according to attorneys. "I was so shocked to see that happen. Never in my life have I seen this happen, only on TV. It was sad to see this happen."

Oklahoma AG dismisses assault charge against officer who slammed 71-year-old man to the ground

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s Republican attorney general dismissed a felony assault charge Friday against a police officer who slammed a 71-year-old man to the ground, breaking his neck, during an argument over a traffic ticket.

“As attorney general, I will not permit Oklahoma police officers to face criminal prosecution for conduct adhering to their training,” Drummond said in a statement. “While the outcome of this incident is unquestionably devastating for Mr. Vu and his family, I do not believe the officer exhibited criminal intent.”

The use of force prompted outrage in Oklahoma City’s Vietnamese community, particularly since the video shows Vu had difficulty communicating with Gibson during the interaction and appeared not to understand what the officer was telling him.

Mark Nelson, president of the Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police, said no officer wants to see someone injured and he hopes Vu makes a swift and full recovery, “However, our members often have to make split-second decisions, and they cannot control the outcome of every situation,” Nelson said in a statement. “Unfortunately, when someone resists law enforcement, they increase the risk of harm to themselves or others.”

From a week or two ago.. a Grand Jury recommends small police force be disbanded because of a "rampant culture of corruption."

So, this small town in Alabama has a 5 man police force. They had an unsecured evidence room that a dispatcher got into, took a cocktail of drugs, including fentanyl, gabapentin, diazepam, amphetamine, carisoprodol and methocarbamol. He OD'ed at work and died. This started an investigation. It was found that several unauthorized individuals were accessing the evidence room. One of the cops and his wife were selling anabolic steroids. The 5 officers have been indicted on corruption, tampering, and drug charges. The grand jury said that the dispatchers death was a direct result of the department's "negligence, lack of procedure, general incompetence and disregard for human life."

Entire Alabama police department put on leave after grand jury recommends its abolition

The mayor of a city in Alabama has placed its entire police department on administrative leave, a day after officials announced that a grand jury had recommended the small department be abolished, saying it had “operated as more of a criminal enterprise than a law enforcement agency” and is “an ongoing threat to public safety.”

At a news conference Wednesday, Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker announced that a grand jury had indicted Hanceville Police Chief Jason Shane Marlin and four other officers, as well as one of the officers’ wives, on various charges, which include tampering with evidence, as part of an extensive corruption investigation.

Crocker read nine findings from the grand jury — including that departmental negligence played a role in the 2024 overdose death of a Hanceville 911 dispatcher who was found dead at work.

Donna Kelso is accused of unlawfully distributing anabolic steroids to Wilbanks and Cody Alan Kelso, according to the indictments obtained by NBC News. She and her husband are charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.

“The lady across in the high-rise said she thought an animal was dying. That’s why she looked out her window,” Kenyon said during an interview. “And that’s when she started recording me.”

Cops taze and punch innocent man who they knew just had a seizure.

The good Samaritans that stopped to check on him called 911 and reported that he was having a seizure. He had just suffered a grand mal seizure and slowly rolled into a ditch. The cops knew this before arriving on scene. They called for medical after seeing his condition. They end up punching and tazing him after getting frustrated at the still-reeling man. A lawsuit was filed last month.

A Hercules man said he was manhandled and beaten by police while suffering an epileptic seizure that caused him to crash his car. Instead of being treated like a victim, he said officers treated him like a criminal.

Although Bruce said he can't remember what happened, police body cam footage shows what took place. Witnesses had called in the accident as a seizure, but officers didn't give Bruce enough time to get out of his car, Bruce's attorney claims.

Bruce said he finally gained consciousness in the hospital, bloodied and bruised. "Tons of pain, I would say, the worst pain I've ever been in in my life," he said. "All busted up, it wasn't a pretty sight to look at. No one deserves to go through that."

"He was tased three times, not only that, he was punched in the face twice by the admission of one of the officers who did it," Fiol said. "He was pulled by the hair, pulled by the limbs, cursed at, yelled out, shoved, poked, grabbed just about everything. You can imagine their effort to get him out of that car."

Here's the shit show.. A guy gets pulled over for window tint and loud exhaust. Several cops tell a passenger that she has to show ID or go to jail. She does not. She is not suspected of a crime because she has nothing to do with the driver's tint. The guy is told by a female officer that he dOeSn'T hAvE hEr pErMiSsIoN to film her and if he does, his phone will be confiscated. So, in retaliation for standing up for themselves, they arrested the innocent girl and then the officer writes 4 tint tickets, one for each window instead of 1 for all windows, and a no proof of insurance ticket when the guy has proof on his phone.

5 cop cars showed up for this. Every cop on scene doesn't know the laws they are paid to enforce, supervisor included. They arrested an innocent girl. Shit show.

You only have to watch the first minute to get the gist. It only gets worse from there.




(BTW, this is the same dept that had a deputy falsely arrest at least 20 people a while back. They sued.)

• Left the elderly man handcuffed while unconscious until another officer arrived.
• Threatened to pepper spray the wife while she was trying to take a picture of the injuries.
• By the amount of times he checked his pulse, I'm pretty sure the cop thought he killed the 71 year old man.
• Told the paramedics that the victim fell. "I got a hold of him. He fell."
• The cop put on the report that Mr. Vu fell.
• The department won't share any of the documentation of the review of the incident.
• Mr. Vu recieved a citation for assault. The cop's charge of felony assault was dismissed.

The State AG saw all of this and still dismissed the assault charge the officer was facing. Pathetic.

 

Update..

This guy has been a cop for the last year in the same department... After getting charged with a felony.

• Does 80 in a 45 while in a residential area not in his jurisdiction just because he was late for work.
• Doesn't produce ID. Runs from traffic stop.
• Charged with felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, failure to ID.
• Got a diversion program, charges dropped, currently getting the whole thing expunged.
• Job given back.

All of this was done after the noise died down. Prosecutors drop everything, the department drops it's investigation, and this guy gets to be a cop again.

Try doing 35 over the speed limit in a residential neighborhood, not produce ID, and flee from the traffic stop and let me know how they works out for you...

 

Q) How do you get away with a DUI and hit and run after hitting 7 parked cars?

A) Be a Narcotics and Intelligence Chief.

Buffalo city government, Buffalo Police, and Erie County Sheriff's Department engage in what looks an eerily lot like a DUI coverup.

Around midnight, this Chief was on the way home, less than a mile from his house, when he hit 2 parked cars. He then turned and went the wrong way down a one-way street where he hit a third vehicle which rolled into a fourth vehicle. He continued, the wrong way, for a block before he hit a fifth and sixth vehicle. He continued through an intersection and hit a seventh vehicle and then came to a stop.

Buffalo Police would not provide the news with the full police report (big surprise), but the news managed to get a copy through other means. He was originally cited for Hit and Run, although there's no evidence that he was given a breathalyzer or performed any field sobriety tests. Convenient.

He was originally cited for hit and run, which was then downgraded to driving the wrong way down a one-way street, which was finally downgraded to.... jaywalking and $150 fine.

Oh, and he was in a county-owned vehicle while he was off duty. The damage to the cars he hit and the county vehicle totalled around $60k. The county truck he was driving was badly damaged, including ripping the passenger side tire off of the axle. Lawmakers were told of the settlements for the vehicles, but weren't told that an off duty cop on a county vehicle hit 7 cars.

The towing company waived the fee for picking up the county vehicle, and no cops signed for the pickup, which is against policy.

This happened a year ago. Lawmakers and the Comptroller didn't know the details until the news got a hold of it. Something that happens all of the time. And speaking of all of the time, the Buffalo Police didn't launch an internal investigation until the news aired the story. Also convenient...

Until the news got a hold of it, this was going to get swept under the rug. Would you or I get just a Jaywalking ticket and no breathalyzer after damaging 7 civilian cars, and a county vehicle, in a series of hit and runs? And why is the Chief still employed and why are the tax payers paying for this off-duty officers misdeeds?
