Illinois liberals propose mental illness as a defense on attacks against police

Utter foolishness. One of the parties has a "burn it all down," mentality, and it's not the Libs. Trump is King Chaos, spinning everything and everyone into such a tizzy that half of civil servants doesn't know if they have a job or not; Trump changes his mind every 5 minutes on tariffs, and his foreign policy is a crock of crazy, from Greenland to Gaza, Canada to Ukraine.

 

This thread is a shit show by righties. Here is the Bill Text. I think I would just leave the discretion to the DA to not charge people who are not in command of their mental state. Seems like this isnt needed.

Illinois General Assembly - Bill Status for HB1697

"Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that it is a defense to aggravated battery when the individual battered is a peace officer and the officer responded to an incident in which the officer interacted with a person whom a reasonable officer could believe was having a mental health episode and the person with whom the officer interacted has a documented mental illness and acted abruptly."
