Going to make a joke here.

UT loses to UK at home and away. Why isn't UK a 1 seed instead of UT?

So well said. Who do we fear? I’m trying to remember when the 04’s were winning 2 championships in a row did I feel this confident? I must have right? But I’ve must have forgotten the feeling because this team seems indestructible by anyone but us not rising to an occasion. I feel when I’m nervous and watching that I see them the opposite. They get this killer extinct at the right times and just finish! Like against Bama it was I think the Condon dunk with an assist as he acted like he was backing up and just ran forward, Clayton I think knew and he just friggen slammed it home and hung on the rim.

I love watching this team I THINK than any other team we’ve ever had going even back to Hill, Willams, Dupay, and the exciting beginning of premium Gator Basketball when I was at school. Here from Cali watching on tv in this stupid town reminds me of home. I’ll admit right now, when we’re doing bad, I’ll catch the games sure but I don’t give it football level love but when we’re good, it’s better than any sport I watch and I’m a Dodger’s fan.

This team embodies the greatness of sports. All have that killer mentality. I’m blabbing but I watch them gritting my teeth it’s so fun.

GO GATORS just win and when you’re the best in the country, bracketology is just a road map. Doesn’t mean we will definitely win but if we don’t, it won’t be because of our seed. I fear no seed. Just want the byes to rest up and heal.

I truly believe we will be champions this year. Definitely a strong chance.

The similarities for this team and the 04s, for me, is, neither team has one player I'm hoping for them to graduate. Seems all other teams had one guy that wasn't up to snuff in my view. But I'm not naming names.

    Interesting question.

After we pummeled Texas A&M by 19 they plummeted in the AP and Coaches' Polls falling 10 places. How much of a bounce back will they get for beating Auburn?

    • Florida blows out Auburn
    • Florida finishes with the same overall record
    • Auburn did not travel to Gainesville and Knoxville (they got those 2 teams at home only.)
    • Auburn loses two straight (including Alabama)
    • Florida beats the same Alabama team on the same floor
Auburn STILL ranked ahead of Florida?

I hear ya. Auburns OOC schedule is still impressive and our didn't pan out well. We're also a victim of pre-season expectations.

We're never getting rid of pre-season polls, but again - I would love to see a mid-season inter-conference week of games. 1st week of Feb before Superbowl. Every P5 team plays two other P5 teams.

It would still result in some supsect use of transitive properties, but that's far better than judging a college basketball team in March by what they did in November and December. The latter is a ridiculous metric that can be mitigated by my awesome idea.

    Who's with me?

Not that much different than Tennessee being considered a #1 seed up until this last week. It is hard for the national "experts" to change what they believed beginning the season.

And if it were up to me, I would use it as a "disrespect" card on the team. That and some talent will go a LONG ways.

Same record, better strength of schedule. I’d put Auburn ahead for now as well, but more games to come.

Except they lost their toughest games and we won ours.

We drubbed them on their floor.
    We beat two #1 teams
We beat 2 top 7 teams on the road.
We beat UT by 30 and were close until Walt got hurt in Knoxville.
    Lost in OT at Rupp
The loss to Mizzou was by a toe ;)
    They avoided Knoxville and Gainesville.

Lets just say, I find the metrics a little questionable.

Also Duke has only one conference win over a currently ranked team (LOU).

They avoided playing Maryland this season.

So basically, Auburn is benefitting for having a Duke team on their schedule that hasnt beaten anyone of substance but Auburn and Louisville?

Isn’t some of the OOC games invitational games too? Auburn may have had a tougher schedule but I’m sure we would beat all the same teams they played as well.

A value of the metrics is that they are comprehensive and don’t arbitrarily focus on a subset of the data. For example, you could note that Florida won their toughest games, and Auburn didn’t, but why not word it the other way around? Florida lost to mediocre teams on their schedule, and Auburn didn’t. I don’t see why the former focus should be automatically valued over the latter. The best system would seem to incorporate both results, which is exactly what the metrics do.

And I’m not sure that this comparison is correct. Let’s look closely at the two resumes based on NET rankings.

    Florida top 25 wins:

    2 away
    5 home
    6 away
    16 home

    Auburn top 25 wins:

    3 neutral
    5 home
    6 away
    9 neutral
    12 away
    14 neutral
    21 home

Florida has the best win on this list (at #2 Auburn), but Auburn matches the Gators’ next two best wins (vs #5 Tenn and at #6 Bama). After that, Auburn has three better wins (neutral vs #9 Iowa St, at #12 UK, neutral vs #14 Purdue) than our next best win (vs #16 TAMU). And then they also add a home win vs #21 Missouri.

    Florida losses:

    #5 away
    #12 away
    #21 home
    #30 away

    Auburn losses:

    #1 away
    #4 home
    #6 home
    #16 away

Losing to #4 Florida at home may be a worse loss than at #12 Kentucky, but in all other slots, Florida clearly has the worse loss.

It’s also not even clear that Auburn has lost their best games. Yes, they lost at #1 Duke, but they beat four other top 15 teams away from home. The Gators only have three top 15 wins in total.

I think Florida has a great team capable of beating anyone else, but Auburn built such a superlative early resume that I don’t begrudge anyone for keeping them above us after a couple recent losses.
