We are not a lock for being on the #1 seed line but we are in the driver's seat.

While getting a one seed would be great….a two seed is still pretty special.

This late in the season, I just want us to stay healthy & make some noise in the tournament.

Oddly….the SEC tournament….i’m sort of neutral about.

    Rest & Health …..

Two years ago (and a number of years before that) we were just hoping to sneak our way into the dance. Now we are debating the merits of being a #1 vs. #2 seed. What an amazing transformation. Can’t say enough about this staff and these players, what a fun year.

"We're getting screwed by getting sent out west as a #1 seed" is just so mind-blowing to hear, right?

They also state, "Any principle can be relaxed if two or more teams from the same conference are among the last four at-large seeded teams participating in the First Four."

I would think the fact that they published (i) explicit rules and (ii) exceptions would indicate that the rules (sans exceptions) are pretty hard and fast.

Gators took care of business today, but didn't get any help from the teams around them (unless Houston loses to Baylor later tonight).

I think the only way Florida doesn't get a 1 seed now is UT or Bama winning the SECT and Florida losing before Sunday. On the other hand, if Florida wins the SECT I think they should catapult Auburn and Houston to be #1 in the south region.

Since 1985, the year the NCAA tourney was expanded to 64 teams, there have been 39 titles. Here are the seeds that ended up winning it all:

    1 - 25 (64%)
    2 - 5 (12.8%)
    3 - 4 (10.3%)
    4 - 2 (5.1%)
    5 - 0
    6 - 1
    7 - 1
    8 - 1

As you can tell, the top 3 seeds have won 36 of the last 39 titles. 2 of the 3 lowest seeds have occurred recently with UConn winning both of those. So the odds are greatly in favor of the Top 3 seeds, especially as a #1 seed. Yes a 2 seed is huge, but a 1 seed has won 5 times as many.

I looked at Lunardi's bracket this morning. He has us as a 1 seed with Gonzaga as an 8 seed in our region. Gonzaga is #8 in Pomeroy and #8 in Net. That is a 2/3 seed resume.

    And we were a 3 seed in 2006 and a 1 seed in 2007.

I just looked up Bracket matrix, and indeed Gonzaga is an 8 seed in most brackets. In addition to the #8 KenPom team, the 8 seed also include the defending national champ and the preseason #1 team in the nation. o_O

Gonzaga doesn't scare me, they've beaten zero good teams and finished three games behind St Mary's in the WCC.

Most years there's one or two teams ranked head-scratchingly high in KenPom. That's Gonzaga to me this year.

FL and Auburn have the same record and virtually all the ratings services have Auburn ahead. If only there were some definitive metric to determine what separated the two teams this season. :emoji_thinking:

Boils down to quality of non-conference opponent and wins. That is the only reason Bama remains in the discussion for a 1-seed.

Yep, that Bama win at Aub was something to behold. If only the Gators had such an amazing feat. Sorry - not intending to be snarky; I agree that it should be about wins (like the ones FL had vs. Aub and AL).

Missouri beat us at home. Not one single person is clamoring for Mizzou to be ahead of us because that’s silly. It’s about the entire resume. Auburn has more Quad 1 wins than any team ever. They have a better conference record. They have a better non conference schedule. It’s not even really a debate.

    I agree fully.

Hypothetical: Duke and UH win their tourneys. UF beats AU in seccg (after beating UA).

What are the overall seedings 1-4?
