America was great until MAGA got their perverted hands on the wheel and started dismantling things that made America great. It’s obvious none of you know what America represented or what made it great. You celebrate xenophobic policies, attack the poor and others with less power, alienate our allies that have had our backs through our darkest hours, upend America’s focus on pushing democracy and freedom around the globe, brazenly sidle up to dictators, lie about concerns for the deficit and SS while pushing tax breaks for the rich that will increase the discount and push SS closer to insolvency, etc. So don’t give me your absurd “hate America first” bullcrap when most of your actions are to either harm the country or seek some kind of misplaced vengeance on those in the country you don’t like.

Probably not fair to lump all conservatives into the MAGA sub-group. While I don't agree, I understand why the Trump-appeal captured so many of those on the right. The Republican party was so lost during the Obama Presidency. Do you remember the guys that were trotted out there to go up against the Obama-led Democrats? Couldn't really get behind anyone. And then here comes Trump to the rescue, willing to go toe-to-toe with the Left-leaning media. I think a lot of the Conservatives now are just way too emotionally invested and can't (or won't) go back to the dark ages when the party didn't have a recognizable figurehead. Every time Trump does something questionable, they go through the thought process checklist:

    1. Is it Constitutional? No
    2. Is this the Diplomatic approach? No
    3. Is it part of a well-thought out Plan? No
    4. Does it anger the Liberals? Yes

    "Alright! We're good to go!"

It's kinda like having garbage quarterbacks leading your team year-after-year, and then you finally get a decent one that gives you hope. Eventually that quarterback starts to regress, but you're not willing to let go because he rescued you and took you out of the dumps.

If you can fix and undo the attachment that the Republican party has with Trump, there may be a chance to steer the country in the right direction again.

I agree that not all conservatives are in that group and didn’t intend to make it seem that way. I have a lot of respect for people like Tilly on this board. I’m talking about true MAGA like the poster I responded to.

I’m hopeful once Trump is gone that these MAGA-lites will fade away but I’m afraid the institutional damage will be around a lot longer. Whether it is diplomatic damage, emboldened foes, stacked courts, damage to our agencies, separation of powers, etc.

No answer again for the facts, I see.

Incompetence makes me unhappy. Especially when I am paying taxes to support the Idiot-in-Chief's salary.

MAGA supporters are the most fact-free group of Americans in history. You cannot even have a discussion with a MAGA supporter based on facts. Trump is their religion--all Trump lies are accepted at face value. If you do not support their religion, they will say foolish things like you "hate America first". If you don't believe that Haitians are eating household pets, then you are a heathen. If you don't believe that most Mexicans are drug-smuggling rapists, then you are an apostate. If you don't believe that most government workers are lazy and don't add value, then you are demonic.

The facts do not support the idea that Trump knows what he's doing, so throw the facts out. As long as you call yourself a Patriot and fight for your leader, you can justify all kinds of things, up to and including violence, right?

I am a republican, and I would support some of Trump's ideas, if he actually hired qualified people to implement them, which he mostly did in his first term, until he drove them to quit. He basically hired clowns at Fox News and a drug-addled billionaire to implement his policies, and it's been a disaster (after only seven weeks!).

Trump supporters are like ignorant children, incapable of thinking for themselves. No offense.

Yep, more of that false dichotomy crap: in their world you are either a rabid Trump supporter or a communist radical who hates America. It is lost on them that there are other places on the spectrum between those two extremes.

My wife and I voted Trump in 16 for one reason, conservative SCOTUS appointments.

2020 also as we held our noses.

2024 we did not. After what we saw on Jan 6 and some of the comments we backed away. We thought he would be too empowered and vindictive if re-elected. We are seeing that occur plus other stuff like Ukraine.

If the democrats and republicans can’t find a decent candidate closer to the middle the fighting will continue and the divide larger. JD with his BS mini me Trump persona will not get our vote should he ever run.
