Who allocated the grants and contracts? Congress? Is this another case of Trump taking precipitous action that he isn't even legally entitled to do?

 

Barring commandeering certain spaces and blaring bullhorns is not an infringement of the First Amendment. But I strongly expect that at the root of this is that the Trump administration may be the most Zionist in US history.

If a college is going to allow hate speech then they should use their endowment money instead of tax payer money.

 

I don’t like this precedent but I’m not crying for Columbia and their 15 billion dollar endowment. They can take a loss this year and just fund research from there. In a year they might spend 5% of that, which is 750 mil.

 

I want to be clear - at a public university with a normal sized endowment this would be absolutely death penalty type stuff - they really shouldn't be doing stuff like this willy nilly. Also I do think Columbia is going to win in court - but it doesn't mean the fed has to give them money in the future.

Don't hate the player . . . (you know the rest). I'll admit having a "soft spot" for Columbia as a teacher educator (see John Dewey, Maxine Greene, and others) whose wife earned her Master's at Columbia. There should be no space, though, where we become sympathetic to attacks on our most informed and forward thinkers. This is not just a bait n switch; it's an attempt by the weak to subvert the strongest and most likely resistor.

 

Columbia has 53 billionaires that are alumni; it’s hard for me to criticize their methods. They are fourth behind Harvard, Stanford, and Penn.

 

The counter argument, and honestly why among other reasons the Dems lost the election is this.
All the things I posted above…being spit on, tacitly removed from clubs, their residences graffiti’d, publicly shamed (and defamed) by professors, death threats, systemic attempts to drive them out, not being even allowed on parts of campus, to the point they had to study remotely…with an admin that continually ignored their needs…substitute African Americans for Jews and what’s the almost certain and completely justified response from the left if there funding was pulled? For the life of me I can’t grasp how the left still can’t see this.
