My BIL was a launch director and and gave us a nice behind the scenes tour of the facilities. I remarked how great it was that Spacex was reinvigorating NASA and he commented how concerned he was that Musk continually over-rode safety procedures. He also had the tendency to go so quickly that work needed to be redone costing twice what it should have cost. ALA his chainsaw approach to DOGE, which is going to end up setting the country back financially and in global leadership. It's a balance to do it right, bringing innovations and incorporating into existing operations, unfortunately it is so partisan now that critical thinking is lost.

Maybe the poster above is wrong and SpaceX needs to spend more money so it’s rockets work?

Yeah, it doesn't take into consideration all of the investment to build the Kennedy Space center, and years of research involved in the space program. Musk benefitted by working on the shoulders of those who laid the groundwork.

I’m not a fan of Musks antics. And i think our reliance on him for key government technologies is problematic, given his emotional instability.

Having said that I’m not going to conclude the fact that a rocket blew up that it was wasteful. When advancing technology you will have setbacks. It is one of the things that has made Musk stand out - his ability to take risks that others would not have which has lead to more rapid technological advancement.

I do think it is shameful how little the space program has advanced the past 40 years or so.

Thanks to slick Willie the Chinese have been using those plans for their version for quite some time now. Old reliable (non-reusable) tech.

From what I understand, China did not copy the Saturn but have taken the SpaceX design for their Long March 9 rockets

Do some research before you post on this topic.

Starship is the system being developed to go to the moon and beyond this is the one that has two recent explosions.

Dragon2 launches with a Falcon9 and takes astronauts to the ISS.

This new system is being design to go to the moon and beyond.

Currently there are now systems other than ones for LEO.

Not true we send dozens of satellites to LEO every months.
Many many trips to the ISS other than Boeing recent failure I can’t think of any issues.

And SpaceX still does it far cheaper than anyone else does currently.

I'm going to disagree with you there. We've made crazy advances thanks to the JPL. We've enhanced our communications method so that we can continue communicating with what you wanted Voyager 2, we now have the ability to sample asteroids and don't forget about the success of the Mars rovers. Europa clipper is our latest advance in technology and will reach Europa's orbit in a few years.

SpaceX has been beneficial in terms of transportation to space, but the JPL and ESA blows everyone else out of the water when it comes to innovation
