UCF (Big 12 Conf) is 8-3 so far (hosted and swept Siena opening weekend; beat Mizzou in a mid-week; hosted Bryant the next weekend and took 2; hosted and lost to FAU; and went to USF last weekend where they took 2). With all due respect, 74, one game doesn't qualify as off track just yet. I think getting a series win against a talented Miami team is good. Sure we imploded with some unforced pitching errors on Sunday, but still I think we are ok. Keep winning series and we will be where we want to be at the end. Go Gators!
Frankly, I think we will have challenges with our staff this season. Especially if Coppola goes down for extended time. We are missing veterans and will need to rely on freshman more than Sully wants. We also need Kurland to come back soon as losing him is a major blow even with having more depth this year.
You are correct—we are playing good baseball. I have always approached any loss with address what we need to hone in on and smooth it out. In game 3 with the Canes I saw base on balls, HBPs, and too much of the plate on 0-2 pitches as what for our pitchers to get dialed in. Our hitting has been very good so far. The only thing I saw in this last game was with them was some dead pull swings on sliders that were middle away. That’s something we have done in the past but been much better at to this point. Again, consistency is the key.
Afraid our pitching is a bit of a mess for this week....doubt King is available (used a lot Saturday and needed next weekend) and we are facing two quality teams. We may have to outscore both.
Bummer…I’m in Orlando and I logged on to the UCF ticket site and they are all out of GA tickets for $20. Julie
You might call the ticket office. Some venues retain some ga tickets to sell the day of. Otherwise, slim pickin's on ticketmaster. GA for 70, seats starting around 90 and go up to 250. Also only a handful available. *few more on stub hub, GA starting just under $50, seats starting at $60
Well, if we can't do it with pitching, I'm all for a GATOR slugfest....... GO GATORS!!!! Will try to make it to The Thirsty Gator on Goldenrod road and watch on the big screen. GO GATORS!!!!
An article on floridagators, com that posted this morning shows tonight's starter will be sophomore RHP transfer from Santa Fe College Matthew Jenkins. He's 6'6" from Live Oak, FL.
He’s got the loose arm action you like to see in a pitcher-got a live arm too, that I’ve seen he’s topping out at 96–sits around 92-93. He hasn’t really shown much for a breaking ball or change up that I have seen anyway. Hopefully those two pitches are front burner projects.
Yes, we will have to depend on seven freshmen pitchers. We have 5 sophomore pitchers, one junior pitcher and zero senior pitchers. As a matter of fact Ty Evans and Bobby Boser are the only seniors on the team. We may have to rely on the bats, small ball and base stealing. Looks like if we can keep every one we will be loaded next year. I'll take that.
According to UF we lead the series 28-21 According to UCF we lead the series 27-22 Anyone know why this is? Also have we really lost 5 in a row to these clowns? Sorry FSU are the clowns, I meant these idiots.
UCF claims our 10-3 win in 1978 as their win for the series record. They may have also won the national championship that year, who knows? For what it's worth, 5 in a row matches the most either team has won consecutively in the series. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Ok I give up,, why do they claim it as win? Was thinking UF vaccated wins? But I looked at schedule hoping to see some info, asterisks, or something, but just see a 34-15 record.. Strange year, at least from a year 2025 POV. 18-4 in sec, but losses to Rollins, Ohio, Stetson, JU, & Fl Southern(i almost went there)
After they won their national championship they were given the right to write their own rules as they see fit.
I don't think there's a good reason for it (well...maybe upset at a triple being scored a double; or an out call that would have led to a triple...something like that) https://storage.googleapis.com/ucfk.../N0Q8QidblfgA4NRJmVJ2QjTXzc5kE8fMpqKBIn6D.pdf On UCF's media guide, page 72, they show the season results, and it reflects as a 10-3 loss in GAINESVILLE. On UCF's media guide, page 92, they show the series results with FLORIDA, and the 2nd game is listed as a win for UCF (the 10-3 result from 1978). FLORIDA scores both of these as a win for FLORIDA in each relative location in the UF media guide. UCF is definitely wrong in one of these spaces, and they can argue with themselves over whether page 72 is wrong or page 92 is wrong. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
