In South Carolina, 175 wildfires burned across the state, scorching over 4,200 acres of land and straining firefighting resources, according to the state fire marshal's office.

The largest of the brush fires erupted Saturday in Carolina Forest, a community west of Myrtle Beach. It exploded in size overnight, forcing residents in at least a half dozen neighborhoods to flee their homes, official said. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire remained uncontained at 1,200 acres, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

Dramatic videos show the inferno nearing homes as flames whipped furiously, sending stacks of smoke into the air. Officials said no structures have been destroyed and no injuries have been reported.

Wildfires rage across North and South Carolina, forcing evacuations

Hang tight South Carolina, the fires will be addressed once the vice president is through skiing and the president is through golfing.

As much as I dislike Trump, I hate that this has become a political issue vs. common sense taking care of the American people.

I wonder what is starting all these fires in South Carolina. Seems odd to me.

    An article

"Typically, South Carolina faces around 5,000 wildfires a year, burning almost 30,000 acres"

"The governor’s office said more than 175 wildfires were burning across 4,200 acres across the state, citing information from the state fire marshal."

I thought that this sounded odd, but turns out it's not too crazy

Fires are burning in North Carolina as well in Uwharrie Forest, as well as up north in Polk County. It has been very windy for much of the past week+ as we have seen multiple transitions from winter to spring back to winter weather. It is not uncommon for this time of the year.

    They looked overstaffed to me.

SC should just give up and stop fighting the fire. South Carolina shouldn’t have started the fight against fire.

Routine control burns near and around the urban/wildland interface zones reduce fuel loads and mitigate canopy wildfires.
