Perfectly timed defensive replacement by the Cane skipper. The previous Cane LF gave us a double in the first inning.

Jacob Gomberg has some work to do on that career ERA, huh?

Last year he pitched 1 inning total and gave up 2 earned runs. So his ERA in 2024 was 18.00. The good thing is that if he pitches again and gets 2 outs without giving up and earned run, his ERA this year will drop to 36.00. Baby steps. Gotta start somewhere.
Just for perspective, though, last year's TEAM ERA was 6.05. Liam Peterson's was 6.43, Jake Clemente's was 5.34 and Pierce Coppola's was 8.75.

Apparently it's his shoulder. If so, that's not good.

Regrettably, Gomberg's outing fit very well with the 2024 pitching staff. At least he threw strikes, but too many of them were base hits. We may not see him again this season or he may get som successful innings, but, unlike Barlow, no one was expecting big things from him. Both Gomberg and Barlow gave up 4 runs, plus Barlow allowed an inherited runner to score- Those 9 runs guranteed the loss. Miami pitching was much better on Sunday, but they still gave up 7 runs and 12 hits.

Yeah, I remember when Barlow originall signed, he was highly touted as being a major contributor to this year's team - maybe as a shut down closer. So far he's not been good at all.

Barlow was not really an impact guy at Clemson....spot duty with an ERA approaching 5. I understand many hoping he would step up his game, but IMO he's exactly what should have been expected and has been pretty much his entire career.

I agree, but there were several highly optimistic articles and comments I heard on the radio about him coming to UF.

Agreed—he’s not the typically fluid guy that makes you watch and go Wow—he is more what you see is what you get.

Yep....hopefully he can eat some midweek innings effectively, and some spot weekend duty. But relying on him in SEC play is not what I would anticipate at all
