Co-MVGs: Will Richard was ultra hot for the second consecutive game shooting 9-13 from the field including 6-9 from the arc in leading the Gators to a 89-70 demolition of the #12 ranked Texas Aggies. Will's 25 points, six rebounds and an assist gave him a team high Value Score of 99. Just as Richard was smoking hot from the outside, Alex Condon was equally dominant in the paint scoring on 5-6 shots for 11 points and had team highs with 9 boards, 4 assists and 3 blocks in only 22 minutes giving him a Value Score of 94. Thomas Haugh rounds out the top three with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, two steals and a block for a solid Value Score of 88.

Shoutout to Micah Handlogten: Micah did not start the game but immediately played a crucial role as an intimidating defender in the low post. He helped cool off Aggie PF Pharrel Payne who began the game on fire but became significantly less effective when having to maneuver around the outstretched arms of the Gator's 7'1" center.

May not have shown up in your point allocation, but I thought Micah was last night's MVG. Was +19 in 20 hard fought minutes with 8 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, while only committing two fouls and totally frustrating Payne who was having his way with Rueben during the seven minutes that he played.

Condon went 1-5 at the FT line. Best improve this metric...
Just glancing at the boxscore, looks like Haugh contributed more than Condon last night.

Box Score metrics give 4 credits for each point scored regardless how they are scored. The metrics also subtracts 1.5 credits for each shot taken and subtracts 0.75 credits for each FTA. Condon got +4 credits for his one successful free throw and -4 credits for his 5 FTA for a net zero at the free throw line. The "metrics" are just fine if you understand credit coefficients that were largely established by people on this board ten years ago. I always show the box score coefficients in the thumb nail matrices and below the thumbnail of all the Gators who played in the game. The Box Score metrics are not the end all be all so if you thought Haugh played better, that's fine. He just did not score as well as Richard and Condon per the established credit system.

Per a previous poster, he noted how Handlogten come in shut down Payne who was having his way with Rueben. I think everyone saw the same, however, there is no box score metric that measures intimidation or forced turnovers from defense pressure other than blocked shots or steals. That's why I always say * Value Credits are based solely on Box Score data and do not reflect total game contributions by players.

Richard, Condon and Haugh all bring so much more than what shows up in a box score. They all play great defense. They all have high bball IQ. They box out, they make good passes and they help on defense.

The one area both Condon and Haugh could improve on is being more aggressive on offense. It drives me crazy seeing these guys with the ball in the paint and looking for the help on pass. Shoot the rock!

Maybe so but the back to back power dunks off the dribble sent a HUGE message to both teams. Worth way more than the four points on the scoreboard.

The Aggies pulled within 6 points twice when Richard hit consecutive 3-pointers followed by Condon's bad assed two dunks. I may be wrong, but I think those were 4 consecutive Gator offensive plays that reversed the momentum of the game that was previously going in ATM's favor. The O'Connell Center was getting pretty quiet until that outburst by the two MVGs opened up the game later in the 2nd half. As Coach Golden might say, "the Gators imposed their will" during that stretch, eventually leading to a 19-point blowout after the Aggies went ice cold in the last three minutes of the game. The outcome could have been quite different if those two hadn't stepped up big-time when the game was still a relatively tight contest. Personally, I think the Value Scores aligned pretty closely with the most impactful players.

A Shoutout should have been given to Handlogten for his defensive impact in the game. I'll correct that in the summary write up.
