Women at a very average South Carolina, who is 5-4 and ranked 53rd. Can't lose a winnable match with tougher teams down the road Men hosting Kentucky. Cats are talented but haven't played great or consistent. Uf definitely the underdog but not a huge gap
Women the usual cluster in doubles, so the hole is dug already. Uf proceeds to lose 5 first sets in singles. Dudeney on 2 wins her first set. Oliveras on 6 already lost her match so it's 2-0 USC. Awful performance so far
Women demolished 4-0....not sure if they will finish other 3 matches. Uf at least competitive in those Men demolished in doubles.....I don't even tune in for doubles anymore, lost hope for men and women
Great job by the guys...Ganesan, Jin,,Nirundorn, Villard win in straight sets Figure out doubles and become dangerous
Somehow the men take the doubles point vs 4th ranked Texas. Beaten badly on court 3 but squeeze wins at 1 and 2. Still a tough road in this match, but now they have a shot. Have to applaud the improvement over the last 2-3, IF they are figuring out doubles they can get into that top 16/host team mix quickly. A huge change from my concerns of them even making the tournament
Jin and Jefferson each up a break, but UF getting steamrolled on the other 4 courts Women underway in Athens....looks like they will get crushed in doubles quickly. After getting swept at South Carolina they may get swept again today. Lose today and you are 0-3 in conference with Texas and TAMU on deck. Thanks Thornquist....drove the program into the ground
Villard and Nirundorn are getting destroyed, won't be long for them. Ganesan and Johnson also lost first sets. Jin and Jefferson won their first sets....need them to finish. Jefferson beating former gator Braswell would be nice. Looks like Johnson flipping his match is UF's best and maybe only shot. Ganesan had multiple game points to go up 1-0 in his second but was broken. Women default doubles on court 3, get boat raced on courts 1 and 2. On to singles
Villard loses 0 and 0, ouch UF down in every second set Gailis is scratched in the womens match.....this could get ugly real fast
Texas steps on uf throats for the win..dominant on most courts. Jefferson vs Braswell only close match in the end Uf women will be fortunate to even win a set
Jefferson wins his match Jin had lost 9 straight games, but has fought back to 4-4 in 3rd Spee wins a set for the women everyone else loses 1st
Jeremy Jin injured his back in set two. I thought it would end up in a default but JJ would not let that happen. He even had to serve underhand for awhile. He was down 0-3 in the third and started to shake off his injury. JJ getting this match to a tiebreaker in the third just showed how tough he is! I loved the fact that Jefferson beat turncoat Braswell. Tough two next weekend on the road against two of the upper echelon teams in the SEC this year; Oklahoma and Texas A&M
Fortunate Jin somewhat shook it off.....back injuries and tennis are not a good combo. Hopefully it doesn't linger. SEC is a little weird this year, lot of teams in that 10-25 type tier. UF will be fighting several of them for a good seeding....including Okla and TAMU. Got to at least get a split Women are looking at not even making the tourney. Likely 3-7 (0-5 in SEC) by this time next week.
Thanks for the inside info on the matches. I watch them when I can but there seems to be video issues with Florida's home matches now. they are no longer on Playsight. Wonder if that is a problem. Video is choppy and always buffering. I was pleasantly surprised with some of the wins these past couple weeks. Nice to see the younger guys playing well, although seems to be up and down with Villard. Very surprised with the 0-0 result.
UF's coverage for both teams is pathetic...and if they move indoors it's non existent. Unfortunately the state of the programs this season it's kind of a blessing
I dont ever remember us being this bad, I know I am a novice tennis fan but I usually at least go to a few matches a year and keep up with their records. But my friends literally have told me not to waste my time with the program until SS gets serious about us competing again. I am wondering is it really that bad now? To expand a bit my friends go to every home match, and I will go with them. They are so disillusioned an heart broken that they dont want me to see them like that at matches. That is like I felt the last year of Muschamp and Mullen with football. So I feel their pain in that sense
Really has nothing to do with SS. Both programs have hired pretty high profile and well respected head coaches. For the women, Thornquist hung around and let the program deteriorate.....but you can't really fire a guy with a bunch of natty's and a program that was still decent. To be honest, the team roster isn't all that bad...lacks depth and injuries have just gutted them. And can't help that coch decided to quit in the fall rather than at the end of last season like a normal person. For the men, Shelton had a great run but the roster wasn't as loaded when he left. Then we looose some transfers and the incoming talent hasn't been "elite". It's year 2 so tough to judge the staff (year 1 for asst). But year 3 with a small roster sport is enough time to evaluate the direction. They don't lose much to graduation and it will be an experienced squad. If they aren't solidly in that host/top 16 range there's a problem. IMO both UF teams shoud have hosting an ncaa regional as their floor
