I would add that overwhelming majority of fentanyl as well as other illegal drugs isn't smuggled through illegal border crossing. It's combined with legal cargoes and enters through legal ports of entry. Giving Trump credit where credit is due he did increase security at the Southern border. Than being said deploying regular Army units to the Southern border is nothing more than costly political theater and may even adversely affect readiness since it would be more time consuming to redeploy them if they're ever needed for real military missions.

And yet, the massing of troops at the border. Basically, US military troops have been re-purposed as the Border Patrol, plus armored vehicles. I don't really think Trump's going to invade Mexico, I just think this strategy is stupid, expensive, and ineffective.

I’m a bit confused. I thought Trump announced that illegal border crossings were now almost non-existent. And I thought the real problem was stopping fentanyl, which everyone here seems to agree does not cross into the audit through traditional border crossings. While I’m certainly not against the troops standing in the borders, why do we need the troops from a budgetary perspective, which seems to be the focal point of Musk?
