"Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered an additional 2,500 to 3,000 active-duty troops to the southern U.S. border, including soldiers from a motorized brigade equipped with 20-ton armored Stryker combat vehicles, defense officials familiar with the effort said."

Border crossings have dropped sharply. There's already a military presence of thousands of troops. Why the escalation? All this to stop fentanyl?

The leadership of Mexico should be concerned about sharing a heavily militarized border with a nation whose president has demonstrated a complete lack of loyalty towards allies, and expansionist ambitions.

I don’t know sensei maybe they want to take the border crossings to zero and send a signal to the Mexican cartels that business is about to get tough.

Other way around. Emperor Trump will start a special operation to "remove" the cartel members from the Mexican side of the boarder.

Idiotic comment. Meanwhile, has the Navy been deployed into the Gulf of Mexico? Have paratroopers been positioned along the California and Arizona borders? What about the Sea of Cortez?

Please, the crossings will never be zero. The cost of keeping all that manpower staring at cacti and braced for incursions of desperately poor people slogging across the Rio Grande is ludicrous. The fentanyl, and other drugs, will always find work-arounds that don't involve a single border.

BTW, I kind of like the sensei moniker.

If we fire upon immigrants, who are civilians, we're breaking international law. If we think a military presence will slow down drugs, that's the height of ignorance. The majority of drugs come in as contraband along with legit business shipments, or from US citizens being used as mules. Either way, they are crossing through designated crossing areas.

You have an amateur SecDef who has no idea, so need a phony “war” that can’t be messed up but can serve to funnel money to MIC and scripted visuals.

Doubt even Putin thought this up, this is MAGA Mind all the way.

Please don't tell me you think the military is really going to make a difference in the flow of fentanyl. Where there's demand someone will supply

This is a fool's mission and a great waste of money that T & V are so dedicated to saving. You'd think Musk at least would propose a technical solution, rather than actual boots on the ground. Trump does love a spectacle though, and no doubt many of his supporters will be duly impressed this aggressive boondoggle.
