After months of threatening to impose tariffs, then delaying them, Trump seems to have committed to a firm start date, March 4. Also, China's tariff rate has been increased from 10% to 20%. He's still insisting that the tariff's are a direct result of fentanyl trafficking from Canada and Mexico. I don't understand that rationale, unless it's purely punitive. "Thursday’s social media statement, which seemed designed to clarify a muddled outlook, comes amid signs that the president’s near daily musings on tariffs are taking a toll on consumers and investors." "Consumer confidence dipped and expectations of future inflation rose in the latest University of Michigan survey. At the same time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has dropped more than 3 percent in the past month, surrendering all of its post-election gains." https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/02/27/trump-tariffs-canada-china-mexico/
There's probably enough time for them to buy a lot of Trump Coin and Melania Coin, and have these tariffs removed.
My guess is that Trump will delay implementation of the tariffs again probably using the pretext the negotiations with Canada and Mexico are still in progress and that in end we'll see a trade agreement that's possibly the greatest in history, so great that we've never seen one like it before.
