Florida Gov Ron DeSantis endorses the idea of abolishing property taxes

Property taxes have been part of this country since its inception. If you eliminate property taxes, all the infrastructure costs for those homes get bailed out and paid in a consumption tax. Terrible idea.

 

From what I’ve read, the proposition doesn’t eliminate the opportunity for a county’s voters to pass an additional county option tax.

 

Just imagine what eggs will cost if the state has to make up revenue with sales taxes

 

True, but that would mean that some counties would have 15% or higher. Plus I don't trust the state to proportion out the sales taxes to the counties in a logical manner. I like keeping local taxes local.

Just dont try to pass rent controls, a higher minimum wage, gun restrictions, police budget cuts ... we love our selective home rule in Florida

 

Counties would add their surtax on top of the State's 6%. State of Florida collects all sales tax revenue from businesses and distributes the surtaxes back to the local governments.
