That's probably true, but enough make it to where its not a "your career is over" move either. Orlando just signed a French guy that played 4 years of NCAA soccer (MLS still has a college draft). Making $80k a year isnt bad money even if its not life changing. More people probably stay just because moving to a new country that far away isnt easy. And also, maybe you dont want to deal with school anymore either.

They recently just changed the rules that you can play pro hockey in Canada in the CHL and then come play D1 NCAA hockey here

French, not English. England has 10 divisions. In my experience, NCAA pulls mostly from other Euro countries due to the size of the English system. Lots of Scandinavians back in the day.

Makes sense, I would think NIL has kind of blurred the line between pro and amateur anyways.

France has a big soccer pyramid too, and its not exactly a poor country. If you are playing in an academy in Europe you are probably learning some English. But its probably easier for British players to go to the NCAA just because you already know the language. Montverde has a pipeline to West Africa, so they get tons of dudes from Senegal, and I think their academy director is connected with Clemson, so lots of them end up there or in the ACC, and then in the pros if they make the grade.

They really don't. They've got the best players in the world, but Ligue 1 is a joke and the attendance is pretty awful. Every team in the league not named PSG are basically sellers to higher clubs and those kids in the Paris suburbs aren't looking for "scholarships".

There's money in France. PSG is literally owned by a country, so its hard to compete with that lol. Monaco is owned by an oligarch, Lyon and Strasbourg have American billionaire money. Troyes is owned by City Group (i.e. Man City's owners). Everyone doing the "multiclub" model has a French team it seams. But there are 3 tiers before you hit the amateur and semi-pro competitions. There are probably more "pro" options in England, but if you are outside the Football League (below League Two) ... odds are you have a second job or live at home or some other arrangement because the pay isnt great.

So why are they always selling? Why are they all under water? I just watched a video about this (Paris FC project) the other day. I was kind of surprised, but it's just not as big (or supported) in France as it is in England, Germany, Spain, Italy, etc. It just isn't. Mbappe left. Why? Because it's a farmer's league.
