What is really puzzling is how our freshmen pitchers from year to year can't find the plate. Yea I know they will get better with experience but really these guys have been throwing strikes their entire career. Nerves? Maybe but the jitters for most of them when they get into a midweek game!

Some part of it is the strike zone tightens up at each increased level of competition

Well so many mixed emotions. That was my boy that threw the 3rd out of the 7th and 8th and 9th for UNF. He was too jacked up in the ninth. Learning experience for him. The bright side is my Gators continue their streak. Bad news is I’m heart broken for my boy and I’m sure he is too.

UNF is much improved this year and should make some noise in the ASUN.

Don't recall hearing Sully say anything about Jenkins.

It’s the biggest stage any freshman has ever been on midweek or not. Condron Ballpark—quite the arena to make your debut on. They’ll all be fine.

I think its more of learning to be pitchers and not throwers. Guys that are overpowering in high school get away with opponents swinging and missing at pitches that aren't strikes and get away with pitching to the heart of the plate because their stuff is that good. SEC baseball is a big step up in competition and it takes time to learn. As mentioned by another member, the strike zone shrinks significantly from high school to D1, along with the strike zone being tighter the hitters at this level have much better plate discipline.
