Did Rachel Madow just call her own network racist?

    It certainly seems that way.

She took to the air ripping her own network and called their removal of "non-white" personalities "indefensible" and a "big mistake".

Nevermind that in the recent business move to spinoff MSNBC into ots own entity, they will no longer have the right to use NBC property in Miami where one of the shows exists from.

Also it seems the one show is being replaced by another non white woman which seems really odd to complain about. (Alicia Menendez, The daughter of cuban parents, one being convicted Democratic congressman Bob Menendez)

Maybe a little off-topic I'm so old that I remember when Latinos who were primarily of European (Spanish) decent like Alicia Menendez and Marco Rubio were considered White.
    White or not?

    White.

Same reason I don't flip out about Mexicans. Race, Religion and Language almost identical to Italian immigrants from 100+ years ago (who were also not considered "white" at the time). Literal only difference is some Native American admixture.

The new President of MSNBC dropped Joy who is black, and Katie Phang who is Asian while keeping all the white people. That should raise an eyebrow or two. Alicia Menendez has Cuban heritage, but the right has always treated Cubans as white, so….

This is a widely debated point.

The US Census Bureau identifies Cuban decent as "Hispanic or Latino".

The university of Miami says the Cuban population is only 38% white.

Not all Cubans are "white" .... hence the term Afro-Cuban music, especially in jazz. This was the area of focus in my son's masters degree and an area of emphasis in his DMA studies. He's one of the few white/anglo (looks like he should be tossing the caber) guys playing percussion in Afro-Cuban combos in NYC.

That’s true, but the ones they let in are more melanin challenged than the ones that aren’t.

I’d have to see their ratings compared to their time slots to have even a slightly informed opinion whether it was a racially motivated change. I’m not of the opinion that a black host’s departure necessitates hiring another as a replacement for the same or different slot.

I noted that one of the cancellations is literally to MSNBC no longer having access to NBC facilities in Miami.

They literally lost all of their Miami facilities where these folks lived and worked from.

Do we even know these folks wanted to move to NYC or wherever?

This seems like an obvious byproduct of the MSNBC shift to an independent entity.

My guess is more people in this thread saw this than viewers on tv. So it really doesn’t matter.

After my cursory reading ....... it seems that she certainly called this action racist. One could then debate whether she'd extrapolate out that the entire network is racist.

So nice to see a personality say what they honestly feel. Much better than having a network of liars who lie so flagrantly that they have to pay an $800 million settlement.

The classification by the Census Bureau is more of a classification based on ethnicity rather than race and while the majority of the Cuban population is only 38% white (most are biracial), a majority of Cuban immigrants to the US including their children and grandchildren are most likely of Spanish decent. Although this is from a 20-year old article it's probably still accurate:
    Cubans in the United States

Fox is hot garbage too, but if you think MSNBC is telling you the unbiased truth, you are just a Foxer of a different color

While I think the process was mishandled I had no problem with MSNBC's decision to eliminate Joy Reid's show. The network brass apparently offered to retain her in another capacity and she refused. The reality is that she was too far left even for a left-leaning network. The decision wasn't based on her race. My personal problem with her and although she wasn't completely wrong Joy Reid went way over the top with her criticism of Israel.
