I like both coaches and find it difficult to understand or accept the reasons and true harm behind the vitrial directed at CMW, especially in light of injuries, transfers, early departures, COVID fallout or whatever issues that seemed to crop up every year. Snake bit. CTG has done a remarkable job but we'll have to see how things pan out in several years and how any ruling on the pending legal action goes.
Aside from whatever happened while here, he left to go to Georgia. That’s not going to endear you to many Gator fans. Is there pending legal action? He was cleared on the title ix complaint.
Mike is a genuinely good man, and he worked his ass off at Florida. For a variety of reasons… some self-inflicted, others horrendous misfortune… it just didn’t happen here. I can’t ever root for Georgia … but I texted him a “congrats” tonight.
sorta. The well was poisoned, and Mike was damn near pushed out, but for the loyalty and admiration he had from the UAA. But the fan base was done.
I don’t think there is currently any legal action, though I could be wrong. Golden suggested maybe taking legal action, but I’d be very surprised if he did so.
yeah… I get it. I guess I’m just arguing the suggestion he simply chose Georgia over Florida. That wasn’t really the case. But yes… we are not gonna like the uga coach. I get it. Only SOS was able to pull this off, going to usc. And maybe only SOS deserved such grace.
Personally, I had little love for Spurrier when he was at USC. He’s back now and bygones be bygones, but I sure wasn’t one singing his praises when he was coaching against us.
The cock block game was about more than just FL keeping hopes alive for title runs, that was a huge *looks like we’re over this* moment in football history and no doubt processed differently by different age groups of fans. Mike White going to Georgia was either: (A) desperation, (B) ego, or (C) completely oblivious to rivalries. no answer here is particularly endearing, but willing to consider other possibilities. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
I was thrilled to see him back in college, though terribly disappointed not at Florida. I was able to root for him often… especially when he went against our more hated, traditional football rivals.
That would be under completely oblivious to rivalries or ego. He can go wherever he wants and he can care less than 2 bits for my opinion. But it still is what it is. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
It isn’t terribly complicated. Mike was in a very rough spot at Florida, and… at best… had a one-year grace period remaining. With the fans, however, patience had entirely run out. And so, given the difficulty of recruiting and turning that tide…. Mike might’ve been “dead man walking”. The opportunity presented quickly, and Mike acted in self preservation. I know it hurt him a lot to leave Florida, and he was tremendously disappointed it didn’t work out. Mike didn’t take the job due to ego. And though he likely knew the rivalry…. I suspect it wasn’t prioritized over his career and family.
You also texted the georgia coach congrats for beating the gators. I think we might be wired differently. I root for THE Gators. Spurrier was definitely not THE Gators when he was coaching against us.
Yes- I am friends with Mike, and others on the staff. Wired differently? I dunno. Maybe I’ve re-wired. Or I’ve blown too many fuses in the past! Lol! I can say this- as I’ve gotten older… my perspective has changed a bit. I don’t live and die with Gators sports, as I once did. And so yeah - I had no problem sending that text, despite very much wanting to win tonight. As for Spurrier…. I love the guy, as he represents those glorious years that coincided w/ my time at UF. And so, I rooted for him. I find it hard to fathom watching sports and having absolutely zero rooting interest aside from “your team”. In virtually every game I watch… there is a team or coach I may root for over another. There are games in which I root for a team only in opposition to the other. Heroes and villains! Sports is entertainment… and as I’ve gotten older, that’s increasingly become the case for me. But Florida wlll always be the main attraction, even if not the only. To each his own….
Would love to see you elaborate on this. He earned enough to retire on with what he earned at UF. "Preservation" seems like a ridiculous exaggeration. He could have coached in any league, he chose to stay in the SEC because that is probably where he could earn the most money. It had nothing to do with "preservation." Money over rivalry, now that I get. Seems more likely than "preservation," lol. Maybe we're saying the same thing, but you are just choosing kinder words. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
The Gators play enough sports to keep me busy. Any other games I watch would just be in passing, and I simply root for chaos. Whatever makes a mess of things. If everyone could lose every game, that’s what I would be rooting for.
