Obviously, deserving of a one seed, but the press as well as the committee will install Duke as the East #1 seed while the Gators will be forced to go out West. This despite when the season finishes, a better Gator Quad record than Duke. Both should win their first-round games in Raleigh. Then the Gators will have to fly to San Francisco while Duke gets a home game in Newark (better draw). There was a great article at CBS sports analyzing how difficult it is to win when flying coast to coast, The record between the new ACC teams and new Big Ten teams was an incredible 2-45 when having to travel to the other coast. The analysis stated the likely reason was the difficulty of trying to get a good night's sleep. The best scenerio will be to play in the South but Auburn is a lock. Shameful.
Lotsa BB left to be played, but why do so many Gator fans dwell on how we’re going to get screwed?? if we’re the weakest 1 Seed, then it’s out west we go. Close out strong and we’ll move up. if we drop a couple and move to the top 2 seed in the South, people will be clamoring how we got screwed.
Yeah, if you want to hear some crying and impotent outrage, go to Rupp Rafters immediately after the bracket is announced in ANY GIVEN YEAR.
There might be criteria that says we are ahead of Duke right now. But there certainly are criteria showing they are way ahead. I wouldn’t feel screwed at all.
Right. Nothing is locked in. We are still in it for #1 overall, but also losing a couple games could easily drop us to a 2 or even 3. If we beat Alabama maybe we get the Midwest #1 instead? Is there a reason it can’t be that? But if we get “screwed” and shipped out west as a #1, not sure in tournament play it matters as much as long road trips in ACC/Big 10 conference play, totally different from true road games during the conference grind. Yes, it would give Duke a huge locality advantage (what else is new) but there really is no “home court” seeding available to us so it isn’t worth fretting over imo.
I’m not worried about it, but since I evidently love doing in depth comparisons here’s Duke’s vs Florida’s resumes: Duke: Net: 2 KenPom: 1 Q1 Wins (Net ranking): 1 neutral 9 away 23 away 25 neutral 39 away 63 away Losses: 12 neutral 20 neutral 22 away Florida: Net: 4 KenPom: 4 Q1 wins: 1 away 5 home 28 away 40 away 45 neutral Losses: 5 away 12 away 16 home The resumes seem pretty close. Duke has one more Q1 victory and enjoys the advantage in the metrics. I would put them ahead of us at this point, but as grant1 points out, lots of basketball ahead. All four of the remaining Gator games are currently Q1, including a huge opportunity at the #6 Net team. If the Gators manage to win all of those, they’d have the clear advantage in resume, though they might not catch Duke in the Net and almost certainly wouldn’t catch them in KenPom.
What happens in the tournament seatings if Auburn wins the regular season SEC but we win the tournament?
The games will be played in Raleigh, NC looks like. Men's Bracketology: Kansas keeps sliding And we'd be playing this team in Round 2........
We still need to play Bama and A&M, amongst others. A Long way to go. And, anybody think we’d be in a position to bitch about which #1 seed bracket we should be placed a few months ago?
Also....currently in Duke's bracket is Tennessee.....I'd much rather we don't play against them until further along.
Lots of ball to be played of course... And this dynamic only comes into play if we make the Sweet 16. My top rule about tourney play is any team either celebrating or bitching about their seed or the region gets bounced early... But since we are going way out there... If things play out as expected why couldn't we be put in the Midwest instead of the West? We would then play in Indy- which I believe has been pretty good to us. And IS in the Eastern time zone...
I like this bracket for Florida. I wouldn’t mind Bama’s bracket either. I don’t like Auburn’s (Houston would scare me), or Duke’s (same with Tennessee).
Ah yes. I remember fondly(not) those Mike White days when we were biting our nails because EVERY YEAR we were living in suspense about just making the tourney. Kind of like Georgia this year and every year now. Good times. “Aes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Agreed that it’s way early. We are universally 4th in all the rankings that matter (NET, KP, Torvik), and Duke is always ahead of us. Would we rather San Fran as a 1 or Newark as a 2? I’m guessing SF, especially if the 2 and 3 are also traveling. We’ll see. It could turn out to bite us, I agree, but all sorts of factors in play right now.
I think this is a good counter to the travel concern. Whomever UF would play in SF is also traveling from other time zones except maybe Arizona.
Or maybe this team is simply meant to cut down the nets for heading to the Final Four in San Francisco, where Golden coached previously. I would think that his experience and familiarity with the Bay Area should help him prepare this team better than your normal east coast coach...
