Looking forward to 87,000 IRS agents hired in the last 2 years to harrass hard working Americans being shown the door, leave guns on the way out.

First the projected hiring at the IRS will never take place. The funding for additional IRS staff was already reduced by last year's budget agreement. Secondly, not all of the new IRS employees would have been agents and finally, hiring more agents would have allowed the agency to focus more on very high income taxpayers who use complex tax avoidance schemes. With fewer agents the service will probably continue its practice of settling cases involving those taxpayers for pennies on the dollar rather than disputing cases involving corporate and very wealthy individual taxpayers who are represented by armies of tax lawyers and accountants. Ordinary working taxpayers who may have made errors on their returns will continue to be audited by the IRS in the same numbers that they have always been. It's the ultra rich who will benefit from cuts in the agency's staff. By the way the IRS is possibly the only federal agency in which there is a direct positive return on investment. The CBO has estimated that for each dollar spent on the IRS the federal treasury receives six dollar in return but then Republicans haven't been the party of fiscal responsibility in decades and their real constituency is their mega campaign donors, not the middle and working class taxpayers who actually elect them.

Apparently your boy Elon is firing IRS new hires that are still probationary. Although Elon is canning them now along with other probationary employees to make his numbers look I guess he, Trump and the other Republican megadonors will benefit 8 to 10 years down the road when they would have acquired the skills and knowledge to audit complex tax returns.
