There's a very good chance that FEMA funds paid to the hotels were for expenses incurred for housing the migrants and due the hotels under contracts that were negotiated long before Trump even took office. Whether or not you (or Musk and his DOGE underlings) believe that the contracts were a wasteful expense and never should have been negotiated in the first place is irrelevant if the payments were due the hotels for housing the migrants. Rather than acting illegally by paying the hotels she was fulfilling a legal obligation. Not really surprising that Trump thinks that the government should have defaulted on the money due the hotels considering that Donald "six bankruptcies" Trump has a long history of defaults in the private sector. If Trump ordered her not pay legally incurred obligations it was he who acting illegally not the FEMA Chief Financial Officer. I would also add that the title of this thread is very deceptive since it could easily be construed that the payments were for a single week when they probably covered several months if not well over a year going to back the beginning of the period when Gov. Abbott started putting the immigrants on busses and transporting them from Texas to NYC.

The article actually disputes the claim. The article states, multiple times that there is no proof of the claim. It does mention a $59 million payment, but states that only $19 million of that payment was for hotel costs. Also, while the payment was last week, there is no indication that the services rendered were for that week, as suggested by the OP, or that they were for "luxury hotels" as claimed by the OP. I'm thinking that we need a title change due to multiple forms of inaccuracy.

So this thread was based on OP posting falsehoods? Color me shocked. I lost interest when I saw the Trumpy OP pretend to care about respecting the law.

Them being MAGA, I'm sure they'll be correcting their falsehoods any minute now.

I know that facts are kryptonite to right wing hate-mongers, but.......

4 FEMA employees are fired over payments to reimburse New York City for hotel costs for migrants

The law doesn't allow those who entered illegally to become a citizen.

I ask again. Are you happy a family is without their father and breadwinner? You enjoy forcing citizens to go on foodstamps? And why are you avoiding these questions?

Its really wild that Musk made up some stuff, right-wing media created a shit storm, and now the MAGA-led FEMA has to fire some people who were just doing their job with funds appropriated from a Republican congress to satisfy their own bloodlust. Republican governance in a microcosm.

The Roosevelt is a luxury hotel- the rest may or may not be- not that it matters- they are here illegally and FEMA had 4 employees who were fired today because they went around the President's edict- there is going to be more that comes out about FEMA and it's involvement at the border

what question have I avoided? It may surprise you but I do not alway read what you libs post, concerning what I post, and there is no requirement that I have to answer any questions you ask me- on this question- does not bother me in the least - he came here illegally and knew his day of reckoning would eventually arrive

I love how you state confidently that it is, when in fact that “luxury hotel” isn’t even a hotel at all anymore!! It closed in 2020 due to COVID. But even before that it definitely hadn’t been considered a “luxury” hotel for many years by anyone. It was sort of a landmark building that had became a mediocre/run down hotel due to lack of investment.

Apparently the old building has been recently repurposed into a migrant center. A Ritz Carlton it is not.

about 10 years ago I stayed the Roosevelt hotel for a conference. It was pretty nice, although the rooms were small.

I'll put the questions in larger font so they are harder to miss.

Are you happy forcing citizen children (with a citizen mother and born in the US) onto foodstamps? And destroying their family by deporting their only breadwinner?

Thomas Jefferson is said to be the originator of this quote, though evidence is spurious, "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." MLK Jr. absolutely said this, "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. Any law that uplifts human personality is just."

You have not justified the law. Just shown blind, idiotic devotion to it. If you cannot answer why breaking up a family and forcing them to take government assistance is justified, then the law is unjust. And should be change and in the meantime, ignored. Unless, as others have noted, cruelty is the actual point.

They did confuse the Four Seasons with a landscaping business once, so you can see the problem here
