Just an observation from me. Most of our better hitters have an exaggerated open stance which helps to load their hips and helps to position the barrel right over the plate. Ava on the other hand is standing with a slightly closed stance which tends to impede a good hip turn and position the handle over the plate during swing. Hitting coach may want to look at. Her first hit was more of a fly out Kendra would have eaten alive.
Next batter hits a down the line scorcher that the announcers say Cahalan backhanded and made a great play to thrown out the runner going to 2nd. 2 down on the fielder's choice.
Don't believe what you hear on radio. It is amazing how much they don't understand what they should see in front of them. Gator Legend said Bellaire made the throw to first and it was a good throw and not sure why runner safe. Foot might have been off the bag. Stats didn't get the play right either. They said out catcher unassisted or something. Stats has made a lot of errors with the first typing but they have always corrected the mistake and, whatever actually happened, they never corrected it.
Batter fouls out to 1b on a 1-2 pitch to end the game. Well pitched game for Brown. 2 hits, 3 K's, 1 walk, 1 hbp. Her ERA is down to 1.00. Gators are 5-0 with USF coming up in about 45 minutes.
Not only did the radio announcers say there was no hit on that play, the statsbroadcast page shows the only runner that reached in that innning was via a walk. That had a conference after the Bellaire throw and safe call, then brought the runner back to the plate because it was ruled a foul ball. The runner on 1st that inning reached via a walk and was called out for leaving the base early on a foul out to Erickson at first.
I’ll tell you what! Cahalan made two of the prettiest plays I’ve ever seen from a third baseman, one in the last inning where she snared a high hard hit ball, pivoted and threw a bullet over to a covering Mia at second leading her to the bag. Another level player at third!!!!
Then Stats must have corrected something after the inning was over and moved on to the next because they didn't change anything that inning. That's why I asked at the time what in the heck actually happened because radio kept saying a Cahalan error and nothing like that was in the stats line.
Well done Ocala. Sometime when the softball team is on linear TV (SECN,ESPN) we ought to meet up and watch one together, maybe Gators Dockside. I'd really like to get your insights while watching them. Thanks
Great job Ocala! Are you up for a doubleheader? If not, MCB51 is probably ready to come in relief. How’s your shoulder, you threw a lot of pitches in that last game!
