Lowest point in years for the program, blown off the court by FSU. Really not even competitive....Jin at 1 and Jefferson at 3 were battling but that's about it. Doubles remains awful. Ganesan and Nirundorn are not playing well, none of the freshmen are seeing the court. Our two portal guys played and were ineffective. Expected a rough season, but it could be brutal
I dont want to be negative, I know he is basically new to us. But like you I know a few very avid tennis people who follow the programs religiously who dont like the direction of the program
Men are facing FGCU today.....barely won a very tight doubles point. Just starting singles, no Jin, no Ganesan, no Nirundorn, No Edengren. Throwing out the freshmen with Jefferson at 1. Interesting
Beat Fgcu 4-1. Impressive wins at 5 and 6 from freshman, top 4 courts were pretty sloppy. Jefferson lost on 1, Jon magnus won a 3 setter, Paliska and Weintraub were in 3rd sets.
Forgot to post results of the match vs UNC Wilmington earlier today Played poor doubles as usual but eked out a 2-1 win Jin didn't finish on 1 Ganesan lost on 2 Jefferson lost on 3 Johnson won a 3 setter on 4 Villard won a 3 setter on 5 Weintraub comfortable win on 6 2 wins on the day, some nice play by freshmen at 5 and 6.....but overall nothing that improves the season outlook for this team
The flu has run through the entire team over the past ten days. This is not an excuse for the poor showing in Tally, but the illness has had an effect right into this past weekend.
Thanks coach...hoping that was a mitigating factor in last few matches. I know you haven't enjoyed the product on the court of late
It's going to be a development year. Some solid players but it will take time to develop them and need a top-rated recruiting for next season.
Roster is certainly young.....unfortunately this is the third year in a row of this with a revolving door roster. Certainly the coaching changes have played a part, but we need to see some actual development. Really hoping we see some strides cause this is a really rough start
You have to remember Bryan Shelton left in 2023 after the spring season. Last year when Coach Steinberg was hired he had Matt Cloer and Scott Perelman as his assistants. Both of these coaches moved on. This season Coach Steinberg has Anthony Rossi and Max Koller. Changes take time to affect rosters and team culture.
Men in a winnable match vs SMU today....and there may not be a lot of winnable days Split doubles on courts 1 and 2, 3 is in a tiebreaker for the point As I type uf gets waxed in the tiebreaker 1-0 smu. Another hole to dig out of
Ganesan comes back to win a first set tiebreak, even in 2nd Jin routed in 1st, wins 2nd Jefferson wins 2st, routed in 2nd Johnson wins 1st, down a break in 2nd Edengren loses 2st, down in 2nd Nirundorn wins 1st, even in 2nd Going to be a nail biter. Showing some fight at least
Edengren loses, Nirundorn wins 2-1 SMU Jin, Jefferson and Johnson all losing third sets, looking bleak Ganesan wins to make it 2-2.....but all those third sets are down at least a break.
Jin and Johnson beaten badly in 3rd sets, UF loses 4-2 This looks to be the worst UF team in a very long time. None of the soph's seem to have made much improvement and the freshmen aren't contributing much at all (none saw the court today). Just can't see this team beating many SEC squads barring a huge turnaround
I was not happy with the softness from the middle of our lineup. Johnson was awarded a victory by default, as his opponent did not want to finish after SMU clinched even though he was up over Johnson 3-1 in the third. So, the final score was 3-4 in SMU's favor but in reality, the match was not that close.
Agree....the 3rd sets on 2,3,4 were awfully disappointing. Also really expected Edengren to take a step up and that doesn't look great either.
I am told by the coaches that the effort level was there last night at SMU. I apologize for my misrepresentation.
Beaten by top ranked TCU yesterday....but a little encouraged that several of the matches were competitive. Pushed them to 3 sets on a few courts.....UF isn't finishing well when they force 3rd sets or tiebreaks, but at least there is some progress in getting to that point. Unfortunately that's the level we are at for now
