Pete wanted a long term contract deal and now he gets a nice $30M first year with options so he's betting that he has another solid fan-pleasing year and can opt out and sign the long term deal that may be in reach for him. Good that he is back in Queens and hoping for a big year for him. Clock is ticking though after 30 and Mets' businessmen were fully aware.
My mind still boggles at these salaries. Are these players truly worth that much? Can fans afford to continue going to live games? Cable and streaming and everything else is increasing subscriptions. Will this go on forever? Can it?
