W…please don’t misunderstand. My point is only this: some may not exploit the middle of the field because their offense works well without doing that.
There are others, especially in inexperienced college quarterbacks who don’t because they can’t.
The don’t see the field as quickly as needed to connect with the open receiver. Whatever pro teams do is by choice. As we all know, most college teams try whatever they can, just using what is available.
I am hoping, as are you, that DJ has the abilities to make all good choices that can get us wins.
    My only point.
    Thanks.

Yet he is still prone to throwing bad interceptions. Its not a given that his vision goes yo elite level.

In my opinion, its not the team or the oc, Rodgers just has a different priorty in reads than Brady does. Not nevc better or worse, just different styles.

Not sure DJ has proved himself to be a generational QB just yet. It could happen, but, he has a lot of growth and development in front of him. He certainly has the raw talent to be that.

    Agree TrueGator.
We set extremely high expectations on DJ. Too many fans felt anything less than challenging for a National Championship and Heisman by year two would be disappointing.
His Freshman year was very solid and with his work ethic, great attitude and intelligence, I think he is on track to become a genuine superstar. But he still has to develop into that guy.
I’m glad CBN has built an offensive line and provided some talented skill players around him to achieve great things for his team and fans.

Well said 2old. He is going to get there, but, decision-making skills take a while to develop. He's plenty smart enough to master it all.

For a true FR, it went well. If he can take a step up this off season we should be solid at QB, especially if our OL holds their ground for him.

I’m expecting OL to be a strength, Lagway to be much improved, RB play to be above average but WR position to decline. Not much experience. Need TE play ti step up

At least we know what we have at TE. WR is the big unknown. There is no doubt we have talent, but are they ready to work and contribute immediately? Last year's Fr group didn't do much (hopefully only because they had more experienced players ahead of them).

I think these are the kinds of threads you and I like the best, Steve-0 (currently the best threads going on Gator internet right now) Just talking Gator football, players, rosters, etc.)

I too am more intrigued by our TE position than most. I think Hanson does the things Gator staff wants out of their inline TE as a blocker and dink and dunk receiver turn up field and bulldoze defenders) very well and is more valued than by fans. I too am looking forward to seeing what Rillos might do for identical reasons to yours. I consider Livingston to be a step up because of his better pass catching consistency.

Florida should be able to find a RT from the list of possibilities. The wideout position offers everything you like from size to speed but depends on a few to step up.

Florida has all the talent necessary to have a great season. Overall, I think Napier finally has his guys on the offensive side of the ball. I may still may not love the way Napier runs his ball control offense but let's see what he can do with this year's bunch and let's see if he can make playoffs.

    Good comments.

On the OL, the sky's the limit for this group next year. They return 6 of their top 7 guys and the next 5 depth guys (11 of the top 12 in total). The goal is to be the best OL in the country in 2025.

The WR room is more experienced than is being projected. Last year CBN brought in two SRs, Dike/Badger, to go with So. Wilson as the top three and Badger didn’t come in until after spring. The top three going into spring are Sr. Sturdivant, Jr. Wilson and Jr/RSo. Mizell. Then 6th yr Sr. Kahleil Jackson and a bunch of young talent behind them.

Lagway is poised to have a huge sophomore season. The comps are Leak and Tebow. Both were monsters in their 2nd season; Tebow won the Heisman. The bowl was a great experience. Tulane played a lot of cover 2 and dropped the LBs taking away the deep pass. Lagway struggled in the first half with two poor INTs. He adjusted at half time and hit the underneath stuff. Excellent growth and experience.

Speaking of Lagway hitting the underneath stuff, a lot of it was to the TEs. So, Lagway will use the TEs. As discussed, Hansen/Livingston will be a year better and Rillos/Jackson will be looking for snaps. Both of them, especially Jackson, will bring more vertical pressure to the TE room.

Edit: Caraway is the DB. Sturdivant is the WR.

    Yes, lol...

When I said Caraway I meant Sturdivant (I'll correct it). Too much late night posting

Urbs and Tebow ran a phenomenal ball control offense in the national championship. The big play is always waiting to happen.

I totally agree. I believe Lagway is a tremendous physical talent with the heart of a champion and the character and commitment to be great. Frankly, I wouldn't trade DJ for a room full of hired portal guns with more experience or an even bigger arm. But as gifted as he obviously is, his drive and apparent loyalty to the team and staff, plus his strong affinity for UF, really do set him apart. GG, and to hell with Miami and their latest plug-in "star" QB. :p

Im not sure there are too many guys out there with a bigger arm. I think our assessment of DJ, as high as it is, may actually be muted by the fact you didn't see the number one dual threat in the country use the dual threat as much as he could. Some was the injury and Im sure he was advised to not put himself at risk with our backup situation what it was. Adding that running threat just distorts the defense every play not knowing if he is coming downhill in the secondary himself or pulling up for a 40 yard bomb. I definitely wouldn't want to be the opposing defensive coordinator (or 3 coordinators) trying to cover all the bases.
