I "believe" you've posted this "belief", before, without a link to indicate if there was an extension by the first Trump administration. I spent some time with google trying to find something to support your "belief". The only thing I found was the following from CBS: Trump administration ends temporary immigration program for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans - CBS News "Venezuelan migrants were first granted TPS in 2021 by the Biden administration, which cited the deteriorating economic and political conditions in Venezuela under the authoritarian rule of President Nicolas Maduro." + "Biden extended TPS protections to a record number of people, offering them to hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Haiti, Ukraine and other countries in turmoil. It also reversed the first Trump administration's attempts to terminate TPS programs for several countries, including El Salvador. Trump officials and many Republican lawmakers believe the TPS policy has been abused and improperly extended too often, despite the program's temporary nature. In one of his first executive orders, Mr. Trump instructed his administration to ensure TPS is "limited in scope."
Interestingly while Trump and the Republicans opposed extending TPS status to Venezuelans in 2020, both Marco Rubio and Rick Scott supported legislation that would have done so. Maybe they realized the similarity between the Venezuelans and Cubans although I'm sure that they (and especially Little Marco) have completely flipped on the issue since then. From 2020: Rubio and Scott support TPS for Venezuelans, but other Republicans in the Senate and the Trump administration have refused to take action on the issue. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article245735115.html#storylink=cpy
No information in this OP. I know you are new here so you probably didnt know you were breaking the rules. Rules 1/17/2023 | Swamp Gas Forums
How much time did you spend googling this stuff only to find nothing? I know recent events often clog up search results for past stories, but you can search by date range. On his last full day in office, Trump extended their stay by deferring removal for 18 months. He even went so far as to direct DHS to authorize their employment. Whether that was under the TPS framework or not, Trump allowed them to stay for an extended period and was praised by Rubio and others who'd been pushing for protections. Notice that Trump referred to these Venezuelans as nationals rather than illegals. https://apnews.com/general-news-international-news-88ba0f2a51b35bf8195e886d4210e5c3 CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — With the clock winding down on his term, U.S. President Donald Trump shielded tens of thousands of Venezuelan migrants from deportation Tuesday night, rewarding Venezuelan exiles who have been among his most loyal supporters and who fear losing the same privileged access to the White House during the Biden administration. Trump signed an executive order deferring for 18 months the removal of more than 145,000 Venezuelans who were at risk of being sent back to their crisis-wracked homeland. He cited the “deteriorative condition” within Venezuela that constitutes a national security threat as the basis for his decision. “America remains a beacon of hope and freedom for many, and now eligible Venezuelan nationals in the U.S. will receive much-needed temporary immigration relief,” Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican of Florida, said in a statement praising the decision. Memorandum on Deferred Enforced Departure for Certain Venezuelans – The White House Issued on: January 19, 2021 **** This Administration has imposed sanctions against Maduro and his regime, and I have recognized the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Juan Guaidó, as the interim president of the country. The deteriorative condition within Venezuela, which presents an ongoing national security threat to the safety and well-being of the American people, warrants the deferral of the removal of Venezuelan nationals who are present in the United States. Pursuant to my constitutional authority to conduct the foreign relations of the United States, I have determined that it is in the foreign policy interest of the United States to defer the removal of any national of Venezuela, or alien without nationality who last habitually resided in Venezuela, subject to the conditions and exceptions provided below. Accordingly, I hereby direct you to take appropriate measures to defer for 18 months the removal of any national of Venezuela, or alien without nationality who last habitually resided in Venezuela, who is present in the United States as of January 20, 2021, except for aliens who: DONALD J. TRUMP
So the CBS article was incorrect. Should that be a surprise? Guess I should avoid CBS in the future. [EDIT] - The below post was an unecessary, dumba$$ comment. I apologize to mrhansduck] BTW, good form would be to post a link when you make an assertion.
I think he did post the link.. Memorandum on Deferred Enforced Departure for Certain Venezuelans – The White House It was mid post so maybe it was missed..?
Trump's prior decision was a pretty big story. I did not consider that a general reference to it might have warranted links or citations, particularly given the context in which I said it. Good form might have been to simply thank me for helping with your google search.
I know. When I said a while ago that I was gonna block him, they were going to retaliate by putting a boot on one of my car wheels.
Oh, the people of Venezuela don't belong in the Americas, that's an interesting supposition - can you prove you do?
do you think conditions in Venezuela are safe and stable for them to return? that is what she is stating by revoking the curren taw saying that it is not. keep in mind this is at the same time that we have max pressure on Venezuela for human rights violations and election fraud. silly me, of course the skidmark endorses election fraud and right wing tyrants. In his opinion, nothing wrong with the country that would warrant fleeing from it. So should he drop the sanctions now too? what, they have lots of oil...hmm. which of my friends needs an export license? they get the right deal on soem mineral rights and we might even bea belt o justify dropping sanctions to help lower energy prices since we have a national energy emergency. see how easy that works when everything is subjective to grifting first rule? wonder how the latin community in Florida is feeling about now? I bet Weston is not a happy town tonight. Miami immigration lawyers on a hiring spree as those that can afford it will get to stay, others, not so much. will make trafficking those poor Venezuelan women much easier now that they know they are subject to deportation..illegal labor will get even cheaper as their options dry up, all kinds of good afterthoughts...
this is not a small nor silent group of people. should be interesting to see the caveats that emerge that exempt these people or offer them easier paths. I know two (I think) that have legit business enterprises here in Naples. Never discussed their immigration status but they have only been in country for around 7 years
They haven't established themselves as reliable R voters yet. And since MAGA lacks the mental capacity to connect those dots you laid out, they're screwed. Like all things MAGA, it's truly as simple(minded) as that.
While you may be right the MAGA playbook seemed to work pretty well last time. The left telling everyone how smart they are, how dumb Trump and MaGA are really hasn’t worked out so well for the Dems has it?
